House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff's rhetoric during the Trump impeachment inquiry has been "disgusting" and unworthy of congressional leadership, Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., told "America's Newsroom" Monday.

Zeldin was commenting on a speech Schiff, D-Calif., in which he threatened to send the president "back to the golden throne he came from." Zeldin also mocked Schiff's leadership skills and said his comments are hurting the country.

I think I read that Alcee Hasting passed all these dopey rules in 1989.

I just sent a note to The Don suggesting he have Schiff investigated, and sued for slander and character defamation.

“They are allowing this farce to go on without any effort to hold their own hearings.”

Senate should not be holding hearings with this going on in the House.
That’s common sense.

it occurs to me that as a juror in a Senate trial, it would be unwise for a Senator to offer opinions lest he get himself somehow removed from the jury

I can’t really answer that question.

There are some dangerous and evil people in this country, and he is one of them.

What company the Schiff types keep-—Charles Manson and the lunatic who devoted his wild eyed energy to getting to a mother ship from space.

And this is a country where Schiff can mesmerize 51% (ABC poll today) of the dimwit American people into wanting Trump impeached and removed!

I hate to have to associate with Dems. Feel dirty afterward.

*************

Says who? Do you have a source to support what you’re saying or just an opinion based on your idea of common sense? I don’t mean this in a sarcastic way; would just be interested to know the underlying fact behind what you said.

Lindsey Graham already stated that the Senate Intelligence Committee is where the whistleblower complaint angle of this lies and added that other committees may get involved soon. This was about a month ago. To wit:

“As for the whistleblower complaint, it’s been referred to the Intel Committee,” Graham said. “I will expect that they will look at the complaint. Whether or not other committees get involved, it’s too early to tell because we’ve got to wait to see what Intel does.”

Based on Graham’s statements there doesn’t appear to be any restrictions on what the senate can do.

I agree with you. Trump is hated because an outsider came in and is threatening the sham of a government we have. Time to close DC down and move it elsewhere and have a government by the people for the people. Lifelong politicians are proving to be a large part of our problem as well as lifelong judicial appointments.

At least it would take a half a century to completely corrupt a new location and turn into what DC is now.

Maybe it should be moved every 50 years.

EVERY TOWN in that area is Incredibly Wealthy.

And this lifetime crap.

It’s not what the founders wanted.

But let’s not change the lifelong thing on the SC now, esp. if RBG dies while Trump’s in office!! :)

If you understand impeachment, why would jurors be spouting off before it’s time for them to hear the case?

The Senate are the jurors. The House are the prosecutors.

Is that not clear?

**********************

Do you not read the news? Senators on BOTH sides have already been opining on the impeachment matter. For example, senator (and presidential candidate) Elizabeth Warren has already said that Trump should be impeached. Senator Blumenthal (a former federal prosecutor) said “We’re not in a jury trial in the classic criminal sense. It is a political proceeding and we shirk our duty to the nation if we fail to talk.”

Republican senator Kevin Cramer has likewise emphasized that while he will be an independent juror this won’t stop him from defending Trump. He said “I don’t think we should shirk our responsibilities as senators ... just because one day we might be a juror.”

There are numerous other examples of senators “spouting off” (as you put it) so your “clarity” is really just an uninformed opinion.

To be objective about it (instead of claiming some vague notion of “common sense”) SOME senators do see themselves as jurors and prefer to be reticent. However, there is clearly no consensus of views regarding the role of senators speaking on the matter of impeachment. To suggest otherwise is simply misleading and not supported by evidence or facts.

They will rip to shreds the House antics when the time is right. It’s not the time to start hearings of any kind competing with that.

If you think you know better than the common sense available on a calendar, ok.

McConnell is going to call up every jerk that Schiff won’t including Biden’s son and Obama officials.

The House has a problem. Starting any competing hearing is frankly dumb IMHO. But I understand people have a case of I need it now, I want it now, give me what I want now, no matter how less than strategic it is.

I can’t help folks with that. :)

That may be, and its certainly something worth debating. However, my point was that statements made by senators — be they wise or not — do not indicate that they feel constrained in any way despite being perceived as prospective jurors.

To some degree because to date, this is a bogus impeachment with no House vote to conduct impeachment proceedings.

In addition, it’s double bogus because it’s based on hearsay by a Fake Whistleblower.

It’s a bad plot for a novel. No one would believe it.

There are no “laws” that govern impeachment. Senate Majority Leader McConnell has already said the Senate will take on the trial if the House votes in favor of impeachment.

The senate should not dignify in any way the disgraceful travesty and raw abuse of power that is being perpetrated by House Democrats against our president. To do so would only legitimize this kangaroo court and establish a dangerous precedent that is very damaging to the Office of the President itself.

On that point I think we both agree.

They don’t have to dignify it. Absolutely. There’s no whistleblower.

They should however destroy it and those they are protecting by exposing the truth. That includes Joe Biden and his drug addled son, Hunter.
