Day 1 of the public House impeachment hearings on President Trump is in the books, and nothing that happened will move public opinion in a meaningful way. The folks who have wanted to impeach Trump since he won the presidency still do, and the folks who dont still dont.
In other words, its a lost day for Democrats.
The burden of proof is on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff (D-Burbank) to do more than secure impeachment, which is all but certain. Their job is to conduct these hearings in a way that moves public opinion to the point that the Senate will convict the president. That means giving Republican senators something that changes their impression of Trumps conduct of Ukraine foreign policy. Whats alleged may make many members of the GOP uncomfortable, but it doesnt come remotely close to requiring that the president be removed from office.
The opening-day witnesses diplomatic officials Bill Taylor and George Kent testified professionally and with honor, but they failed to deliver a made-for-TV gotcha. Rather, they simply reiterated that they had no firsthand knowledge of the presidents interactions and had not had conversations with the president directly.
What I can do here for you today is tell you what I heard from people, Taylor said at one point to the Democratic counsel, which is not exactly compelling evidence if you are trying to convince the American people that what happened is worthy of taking down a presidency. In Taylors defense, he said he did not appear as a witness for either side of this debate, but obviously Democrats were hoping people would view him as a witness helpful to their impeachment ambitions.

Why do the media keep calling this an impeachment hearing? Its still in the inquiry stage.
Taylor's testimony reminds me of a song that was popular during my younger years. The song was Take It On The Run by REO Speedwagon.
The lines are:
"Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from another you been messin' around..."
Want some truth? Here ya go:
THE DEMS ARE NOT GOING TO IMPEACH TRUMP!
It was a nothingburger today the execrable and stupid Chris Wallace notwithstanding.
Democrats couldnt show Trump committed a crime. What they did show was Deep State bureaucrats disagreed with him about foreign policy.
Even if true, it doesnt rise to the level of an impeachable offense.
Someone should tell Chris Wallace.

Trust Sessions. Trust Huber. The midterms are safe.
The pedophile and the cadaver.
an attorney? ;)
I didnt know about those rules. Calvin teaches me so much, like the world used to be in black-and-white.
Hearsay is actually kind of tricky -- even some lawyers mess it up.
Yeah they are. They have to now. It would look worse for them if they backed down after all this.
The burden of proof has turned into a burden of spoof.
Adam Schiff has nothing but a pack of disgruntled bureaucrats who did not want to implement Trump’s new foreign policy on Ukraine, and President Trump did an end run on them. No impeachment will come of that. The president was just doing his job.
I thought the first day of the Impeachment process was to name the crime? Then you trot out witnesses to corroborate said crime being commtted.
Chris Wallace needs to be replaced by Tucker or Jesse...
Exactly. There is no justice or attempt to reach any truth. Its just an exercise of power to get what you want done. Nothing matters except that they can impeach him.
Nope. He is incapable of being embarrassed or feeling shame.
Since he and I were in high school together, I keep trying to remember if he was such an intolerable jerk back then. But I do not remember him.
