NEW YORK, Nov 12 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Climate change opponents plan to stage a hunger strike to demand a meeting with U.S. Congressional leader Nancy Pelosi, they said on Tuesday, in the political battle over global warming.

The protesters said they want a one-hour on-camera meeting with Pelosi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to discuss reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2025.

"You have yet to pass even symbolic legislation recognizing the climate crisis as a national emergency. With all due respect, you have failed," they said in an open letter.

"Meet with us or leave us to starve while you jet to your Thanksgiving feasts and cocktail parties in the glow of a burning world."

Global warming threatens the planet's food supply with extreme weather, from drought to more dangerous and destructive storms, scientists say.

I would gladly purchase enough super glue to help them starve. Glue both ends shut to help save the planet

Now that, is a great idea. 👍👊

It is eight degrees here tonight.

I don't think I have ever had to fire up the wood stove this early.

I wish these people would shut their pie holes because every time they spew it seems to get colder.

Oh man, nothing pleases me more than to see idiots starving themselves to try and make other people do something!

Really, they should totally stick together for however long it takes to make a difference.

Don’t give up too soon!

Couple of inches of snow today, pretty but early. The world doesn't look like it's likely to combust anytime soon.

I don't think hunger strikes are the way to go - what about self-immolation? It's cheap, it's spectacular, and it goes with the whole burning world theme. You don't have to use fossil fuels, although it is more efficient...

Ouch. I grew up in North Dakota, so I know what that’s like. It’s 87° here right now. Too dang hot. 👎

Finally those guys come up with a plan I approve of.

Maybe also mass suicides after Election Day 2020? Vote for {whoever their nominee turns out to be} or else we kill ourselves?

These dedicated souls have my support 100%.
Would Jane Fonda’s participation be too much to hope for?
