Big, destructive hurricanes are hitting the U.S. three times more frequently than they did a century ago, according to a new study.
Experts generally measure a hurricanes destruction by adding up how much damage it did to people and cities. That can overlook storms that are powerful, but that hit only sparsely populated areas. A Danish research team came up with a new measurement that looked at just the how big and strong the hurricane was, not how much money it cost. They call it Area of Total Destruction.
Its the most damaging ones that are increasing the most, said study lead author Aslak Grinsted, a climate scientist at the University of Copenhagen. This is exactly what you would expect with climate models.

When you're losing the game, change the rules.
Now the global warming alarmists have come up with a new fungible metric. Area of Total Destruction.
Now they can go to hurricane records before satellites and estimate previous hurricanes used to be smaller.
When I want to know about snow, I’ll ask a Dane. Otherwise, STFU!
Just like the rat congress - when the facts don’t exist, make them up.
As we witness record cold bearing down on the Midwest we subjected to this kind of global warming BS being reported as fact. Orwell really underestimated how bad things would be.
Even the “cost” measurement overstates: there is more to be damaged.
Maybe if it was adjusted for GDP.
No they aren’t. We really seem to be getting fewer hurricanes. It is the media hype before one that is overkill and hyper.
Destructive hurricanes hitting the US have been down for decades.
“Experts generally measure a hurricanes destruction by adding up how much damage it did to people and cities”
As the coasts build up there is more destruction.
Ive researched it and proclaim due to the lack of Danish hurricanes, climate change will make us all happy and rich. Shoot, Im just as credible as those guys.
A little over a year ago, a Cat 5 hit just East of Panama City. Michael was the most powerful one to hit the Florida Panhandle since records have been kept.
That statistically means absolutely nothing
Very scientific. </sarcasm>
Jehovah Witnesses believe in the same crapola.
Why go to a Dane when we already have a Swedish teenager?
If they would just ban SUV’s and air conditioners, hurricanes would cease.
It is an interesting postulate. Has the US territory in the study changed? So are we comparing area to area and there is just some feature of the USA that make bigger storms? With out data and something new I cannot get into this idea.
I have noticed that the most severe weather tends to follow the MSM forecasts of severe weather.
Yes, we must apply "correction factors" to all previous weather events, just as we have "corrected" previous temperature and sea level data. Control the data and you control the argument.
