Warren’s health plan is big trouble for organized labor
NY Post ^ | 11/10/19 | Nicole Gelinas

Elizabeth Warren has a plan — to annoy union members who work for state and local governments. With her “Medicare for All” plan, the top-tier Democratic contender is revealing a tension in the neo-progressive movement.

Warren’s $20.5 trillion over a decade to pay for Medicare for All requires what she calls a “redirection” in funds: $6 trillion in “existing state- and local-government insurance spending.” Of this figure, $3.3 trillion goes for Medicaid, public insurance for poorer people.

But the other $2.7 trillion comes from the funds state and local governments “currently spend on employer contributions to private insurance premiums for their employees.”

Warren wants these governments to give this money to Washington instead. Teachers, firefighters, police officers and the like would be covered by a federal plan, not by the private plans their employers currently pay for.

This provision bares a weakness in Warren’s wonkiness. She is trying to fulfill her pledge not to raise taxes on middle-class Americans, but she can’t do it without expropriating the state and local taxes they already pay.

Yet Washington can’t just reach out and grab the money that state and local taxpayers provide to their governments. To gain their cooperation, Warren bets that state and local governments will voluntarily go along with this in exchange for future savings — that is, they’ll think that Washington can better manage health-care costs than they can.

Yeah, LOL, wait until your rank and file union members get a whiff of the smoke coming out of Princess Gray Beaver’s peace pipe. Those labor union heads practically resort to old-style Chicago gangland tactics to wring concessions out for their members. I don’t think this is going to sit too well with the natives.

yes I hear you.

Unions who have worked hard to negotiate some good benefits for their members, are not going to be eager to give it all up, for some nebulous idea of “socialized” medicine for all, including illegal aliens.

I’m sure a “counter argument” towards unions, such as construction workers, would be, the “green new deal” will create so many more jobs and pay for their members.

I predict this goes over like a lead balloon for the union rank and file, as well as union leaders.

Betsey is never going to be president. The only one with a chance is Biden, and he is senile.

UAW Region 1A Retiree News says this month: Single Payer —It’s What the People Want, on page one. Then quotes Walter Reuther who “would be in tears” over current free market style health system in America.

“When it comes to organization of health care we are riding in a Model T vehicle—we ought to put the Model T system in a museum where pieces reside peacefully in the past.”

Now I know many union members vote for Trump and their leaders vote for Hillary and the others. But even entertaining a preposterous single payer plan is outrageous and dangerous.

The promise: all you people will get goodies from the rich.

The reality: The Medicare and other plans you supported all your working lives with deductions are now blown to pieces but keep paying your taxes because people who arrived illegally yesterday afternoon are now on full health care.
And there really will be no Medicare for anyone under all government single payer. Which will go broke in twenty minutes. “Uh, more tax money needed from the middle class—and can you make it fast? This is an emergency.”

Government can be trusted to run health care as efficiently and cheaply as they did the state DMV offices. Er,uh, I mean the State of California with San Francisco as its example. And balanced the US budget with no deficit, uh....Er, oh, you know what we mean.

Princess Cow Chip will promise them special carve outs behind the scenes, just like with Obamacare exemptions.

And financially, how does any of this “pencil out”?

$30 trillion, $50 trillion — trillions are thrown around so casually.

The entire federal government spends somewhat over $4 trillion a year on everything they are responsible for spending money on. The total income is about $3 trillion, so we have about a $1 trillion deficit each year. The total national debt is around $23 trillion. The existing unfunded liabilities for Social Security and Medicare as it stands now, could be over $50 trillion. The total gross domestic product is around $20 trillion.

Against this backdrop, people like Warren casually propose spending tens of trillions more on this pie in the sky scheme??

Does any Democrat have a simple Excel spreadsheet, which would easily reveal how things just can’t add up?

Warren’s already disqualified herself by exposing what’s under her dunce cap. Her presidential aspirations are dead as a doornail.

Agreed. You don’t have to belong to a union to be aware of your employment benefits - health, dental, optical, PTO, sick leave, short and long term disability, life, continuing education/industry certs, the works. Unionists have that in spades. They’re not going to take a leap of faith on some mandatory, untested, unproven, government-sponsored health care plan, not knowing how well it works. You go with the devil you know. And to hell with media polls and survey results - unionists can stand there and bob their heads in the affirmative to their shop stewards and heads of their locals; it’s another thing when they get in the booth and cast their ballots. They’re taking a chance with the coverage of their wives and children, as well.

Liz would have to override all state laws and the US Constitution to take all the money from the State health and pension funds to fund her own pyramid scheme, and that is what it is at this point. Warren is going the way of Argentina and Venezuela in her schemes. But the one fact is, her plans will never pass the House. They would all vote if down due to the pyramid scheme. So as much as she bamboozles the people, Congress will keep her from destroying the country, I hope. Single Payer is a monopoly and monopolies are usually disbanded or broken up by the Feds.

It’s a big problem for ‘elites’ too. They want MEDICAID and VA Care for the little people and private insurance for themselves. They sure as hell don’t want to stand in line and wait a month to see a doctor.

Trade in that Model T for a Trabant.

I have said it before, and I will restate it again- the winner of the dimmacrat nomination selection procedure will not involve any of the 20+? announced entrants as of this time. The eventual candidate is not yet “in the running”.

My observance of the devoted union members, is that they’ll refuse to think that far - just like they did with Obamacare.
