Exactly what is the great, imminent treat NATO is dealing with?

It's interesting this interview appeared in 'The Economist'.

Is the demand for NATO now nothing more than propping-up European economies by having the US pay for their defense?

I think he’s right. We should just dissolve NATO.

The vast majority of our Political/Media complex still has not figured out the Cold War is over. They keep preparing to fight the last war

Allies are only worth having when the relationship is receptacle, which NATO is not. NATO would be completely unable as well as unwilling to aid the US if we ever needed help. It is time to get rid of allies who are really not allies, they simply pull us down.

Hey, Macaroon.. Why don’t you have your country take up the slack? Divert some of those euros from the third world knuckle draggers you’re inviting into your country to defending Afrope. NATO was formed to defend Western Europe, not North New Africa.

Maybe have a bake sale. Sell some moldy cheese, snails, and croissants.

Macron's remarks are some of the harshest public criticism President Trump has faced from world leaders over his decision to remove U.S. forces from northern Syria ahead of a Turkish invasion of the region last month.

What does NATO have to do with Syria?

Is the demand for NATO now nothing more than propping-up European economies by having the US pay for their defense?

I think Macron has let a dirty little secret out of the bag here. NATO was never created to protect Western Europe from the big, bad Soviet Union. It was, in fact, created to give the U.S. a legitimate reason to place permanent bases in European countries and protect them from each other (especially Germany).

Russia IS NOT a benign entity.

Europe wants to completely get out of the self-defense business.

Hey, there’s no longer a threat.

What in the Sam Hell are they thinking?

These people won’t be satisfied until they give back all the Iron Curtain nations.

I’d like to think Europe was worth fighting for.

More and more, they are proving it isn’t.

NATO has no authority over our deployed troops. We shouldn’t be bringing in other countries to leak to the world (or Turkey).

“nations in the alliance were less committed to upholding longstanding mutual defense agreements”

NATO is mainly for your protection, Frenchies. If you want to stare down Russia without us, good luck.

hey, if the EU loves NATO so much, they could always meet their full NATO financial obligations instead of just leeching off of us, right?
