A federal judge in Portland, Oregon, has put on hold a Trump administration rule requiring immigrants to prove they will have health insurance or can pay for medical care before they can get visas.
US district judge Michael Simon granted a temporary restraining order that prevented the rule from going into effect Sunday. It was not clear when he would rule on the merits of the case.
Seven US citizens and a non-profit organization filed the federal lawsuit on Wednesday, contending the rule would block nearly two-thirds of all prospective legal immigrants. The lawsuit also said the rule would greatly reduce or eliminate the number of immigrants who enter the US with family sponsored visas.

The proclamation says immigrants will be barred from entering the US unless they are to be covered by health insurance within 30 days of entering or have enough financial resources to pay for any medical costs.
It is the Trump administration’s latest effort to limit immigrant access to public programs while trying to move the US away from a family based immigration system to a merit-based system.
The White House said in a statement when the proclamation was issued that too many non-citizens were taking advantage of the country’s “generous public health programs” and said immigrants contribute to the problem of “uncompensated healthcare costs”.

I miss the rule of law. This so-called judge had no authority to issue such a ruling and needs to be removed from office. I’d like to see President Trump hold up ALL family immigration until this frivolous lawsuit is decided and the appeals process completed. That would draw the teeth on the thuggish left’s litigation strategy.
Soon Portland will have a human feces problem that rivals San Francisco.

Obama/Pelosi declared that all US citizens had to have healthcare coverage. Mandatory. That was the law.

Oh but lets keep focusing on judges because eventually we will get a favorable ruling. What a waste of effort. Anyone in the judicial system has been thoroughly run through the anti conservative big government filters. Anyone who appears to be a conservative judge is only pretending. Trying to pick judges who will rule in favor of the constitution and limited government is an exercise in futility. We need to reign in the usurped power of the judicial branch entirely. Term limit all judges and drastically lower the bar for removal from the bench.
In the meantime,useless ussc chief judge john roberts, does nothing to stop the judicial abuse, alleging “no political bias”.

Portugal, Greece, Trinidad, pretty much anywhere I want to reside or retire in requires me to not be a public charge with health insurance and proof of sufficient assets to live without taking a job from the citizens there.
Every Obama appointed judge should be removed from the bench.
How about then just suspending all immigration until the issue is decided at the highest level?
But it was okay for U. S. Citizens to be held accountable for having insurance, and to be taxed a large fine if they didn’t.
