Democrat response: Somebody did something. Move along.
If Trump gets to drop the hammer on the cartels, this will be awesome.
I love his attitude, but this would be house to house fighting. We can’t stop the mafia here, how are we going to stop the cartels there. I mean, the CIA/NSA could offer intelligence intercepts and resources to take out some of the cartel leaders and make life difficult for them, but new ones will just spring up in short order.
The problem is not the supply, but the demand. As long as 10-20% of Americans are drug addicts funneling money to the cartels just as fast as they can, there will be cartels to fill them. The harder we hit them, the worse their violence will be.
This looks like just another endless war to me, unless we go nuclear, which would be simply to assassinate everyone in the Mexican drug trade that we can find as fast as we can find them. I mean, everyone. You kill a Mexican and his brother will do everything he can to kill you. This would be like another war on terrorists, but we can’t bomb Mexico.
I don’t have my own solution to this.
I agree completely, and I've been saying this a long time -- find the cartel compounds and, hopefully with the cooperation with the Mexican government, wipe them out with military gunships (helicopters and C-130's) and drones, in a full-on U.S. military operation.
Not only would it wipe out some of their leadership, it would send a message -- we're finally serious about wiping out the cartels.
No match for us
Hire honest cops at $100K per year, boot out the corrupt ones and allow them to share a percentage of all confiscated cartel money. Things would look much different in a year.
Pershing was hamstrung by a government that didn't want him there and a POTUS who limited his ability to effectively deal with Villa.
I wonder if anyone ever told him that Col. Tompkins was only a few yards from where Villa lay wounded, and rode right past.
Yeah, no place to hide there.
Hopefully the cartels will still war with each other and wipe themselves out.
That's exactly why we're 0-6 since WW2. With more American blood spilled than in WW1.
This would be like a training exercise for special forces... so why dont we do it?
And we don’t need to ignore the Constitution to do it, because all we have to do is increase the border wall we are already building to a heavily armed fortification line and the Cartels will come to us.
No neocon foreign intervention actually in Mexico is even needed.
First we need to designate these cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. Then we need to use special forces to take out the cartel members here with extreme prejudice. Either they leave the country, surrender, or we find and kill them here in the US. Then we go to Mexico and assist them in hunting them down in Mexico and killing them there. The cartels can not be solved with only law enforcement as they are too big and powerful and the solution will require the military.
We can do the same with the Cartels in Mexico as we've been doing in Iraq and Afganiscrap against ISIS. Keep taking out the leadership with Special Operators until there is no one to fill their shoes. The USA "subsidiaries" will die on the vine or form their own little cartels. Those will be easy to quash.
The DEA, CBP, CIA, NSA and especially Mexican intel know where they live. They're in plain site in their mansions and so-called hide-aways and where their extended operations exist (watch the movie Sicario for an idea). I've read our satellites and human intelligence (humint) have such targets in sight. Just send in SEALS, Delta, Special Forces to keep killing them rather than bombing or sending in Army grunts which would probably cause too much collateral damage for Mexicans to support
It would be much easier than the Middle East, but would need a serious commitment that only the Mexican president could authorize.
The Mexican government is owned by the cartels.
I wonder, are the streets of Mexican cities filled
with heroin addicts? Are their places of business and homes
full of people strung out on cocaine? Does the
Mexican government aid and abet addiction by
dispensing free needles to addicts? How many
overdose deaths per year are there in Mexico?
Does Mexico tolerate drug addiction?
Can the average Mexican afford to buy illegal drugs?
My point is this: If Mexicans in general are to poor
to buy cocaine, heroin, etc. then this whole drug
cartel business is only pointed at the USA simply
because Americans have the money to indulge themselves
is this self destructive stupid behavior.
Then I presume the Mexican government on some level
must approve and aid the cartels in some way. I'm
sure that the Mexicans are all aware of the money
to be made off addicting Americans to their product.
No US troops in Mexico.
Very, very bad idea.
If you break it, you bought it.
You’re gonna wanna add about 700 miles to that plan so you get Salt Lake.
At least if you really want to put a dent in this particular case.
Cartel HQs in Milwaukee are located in black ‘hoods - taking one of them out would make the riots in LA decades ago look like a Sunday school outing, or Ferguson on Andro 400.
You’d need an ROI that allowed free fire on supporting actors ie the local blacks shooting all manner of ordinance at the copters, vehicles, operators.
ROE - sorry thinking other things at same time.
The total elimination of the Mexican cartels and allowing A LEGITIMATE Mexican govt. to once again take control.
As evidenced by the firefight that occurred a couple weeks ago following the arrest of El Chapo's son, the local police had to release him due to being out gunned by the cartel that ultimately freed him.
Will it ever happen? I don't know but the only thing that will stop the drugs from being transported throughout south and central America will have to be an all out war to kill every cartel member and drug handler under their umbrella.........
And if it requires the use of U.S. military forces, then I am all for it........
If your scenario ever came about, it would qualify under the Insurrection Act of 1807. Lincoln invoked it after Fort Sumter.
