For the first time, the Syrian Interim Government formed by the Syrian National Coalition has managed take the armed opposition under its command. With this step, the political opposition for the first time may be able to proclaim itself the representative of the entire Syrian opposition.

SETA is a think tank, mainly Turkic researchers.

This is an excellent analysis of the Syrian militias, irregular fighters, and armies of all the present ethnicities.

Syria and its divisions is the most complicated political and conflict environment in the world.

This analysis is a must for anyone to educate themselves.

I’ll said here again loud and often - who gives a flying fig about Syria?

I’m dead serious- that’s a patch of sand that’s been reduced to rubble with about 10 different Islamic groups fighting each other as they have for about seven or eight centuries

who gives a crap?

“who gives a crap?”

Well, how about Israel?

Our legal NATO ally Turkey?

Our best Arab ally Jordan?

The ISIS remnants trying to rearm themselves? What about the 13,000 ISIS prisoners in Syria?

Like them or not, we are locked into them all.

They will be dead meat in northeastern Syria, and Turkey will wind up leaving northeastern Syria as well. As that happens the U.S. will not intervene in favor of Syria and Russia/Assad will not (then) contest U.S. control of Syrian oil fields that the U.S. and the Kurds took back from ISIS in north western Syria.

Erdogan does not give a dam about the Syrian Opposition, other than as his tool for permanent (he hopes) occupation of part of northern Syria.

correction to eariler comment:

Original: “They will be dead meat in northeastern Syria, and Turkey will wind up leaving northeastern Syria as well. As that happens the U.S. will not intervene in favor of Syria and Russia/Assad”

Should have been: “They will be dead meat in northeastern Syria, and Turkey will wind up leaving northeastern Syria as well. As that happens the U.S. will not intervene in favor of Turkey............”

Actually, I do. I view the regime change war, and continuing skullduggery by the US/UK governments to overthrow the legitimate government of a Sovereign Nation to be an overtly criminal act. The death of over 500,000 Syrians is blood on US hands.

It's OK because it was Obama's war. He has a Nobel Peace Prize, ya know. I'm sure he sleeps just fine...

we should - it was in Damascus that Christians were first called Christians. There are still small communities of Christians - 20% of Syria’s population that need the help of the west
