Russia acquiesced to Israeli requests and canceled certain arms sales to regimes that are antagonistic toward Israel, an adviser to the prime minister said this week, according to the Ynet news site.

In return, he said, Israel canceled arms sales that irked the Russians, including to Ukraine.

Short-lived, unfortunately.

Sometime, IMO in the second half of this century, Russia, Iran, and their buddies will launch a full-blown attack on Israel who will miraculously basically wipe them out (Ezekiel 38-39).

“ Second half of this century” That long? Seems to me that would happen sooner. But yeah. The Russians will be back supplying Israel’s enemies based on Ezekiel 38.

Uh Oh! A quid pro quo! Actually might come into play if the Israelis have to go to a 3rd election to pick the next PM. He actually has a few things to show off if he has to campaign again including the killing of the ISIS leaders, the US cancelling some aid to Lebanon, and this deal with Russia. It could change some votes next time, if it comes to that, showing that he can work with every party in the region.

That would be based on some interpretation, as I understand it. Though I am no expert on this theological point, you could say that Russia already did - the Arab armies between 1948 and 1979 were backed by Russia and using Russian military equipment. In the War of Attrition the Israeli air force downed a large number of Egyptian MiG fighters that were actually flown by Russian pilots. It is one of the reasons why Carter was able to flip Egypt to the US sphere of influence, cut the peace deal, and ultimately it contributed to the fall of the USSR. If Russian jets flown by Russian pilots could lose so many dogfights against tiny Israel nobody wanted to buy the Russian gear.

On the other hand, you do have Russian troops in Syria, and Syria, Turkey, and Iran are installing Russian anti-aircraft equipment. So one never knows how things will play out.

The Holy Spirit, the author of the Bible, can help with support from current events.

Not in 1948. Russia was the first nation to grant de jure recognition to Israel, significant under international law. US recognition so often touted when discussing Truman, who wouldn’t allow a Jew in his house, was de facto. And based on the factos on the ground, the US boycotted arms sales to Israel. Yes, like France, some Americans cheated. Russia supplied arms through the Czechs directly. Of course when during the early development of Israel it became apparent Israel wouldn’t become an anti West socialist outpost in the region, they changed and armed the Arabs.
