During the House's historic vote to set the ground rules for the impeachment of Donald J. Trump, members shouted and booed as the votes popped up in lights on the wall above them.
Why it matters: The Legislative Branch embarks on its ultimate weapon against the Executive Branch with the two parties locked in corners.
You could see Republicans shaking their heads as the "Yea" votes soared. Speaker Pelosi lost only two Democrats; no Republicans crossed over.
Flashback: It wasn't this stark 21 years ago, for the 1998 vote launching the impeachment of William J. Clinton: 31 Democrats joined all Republicans in setting up a formal process for considering impeachment

It was not a formal vote to impeach. But continue saying it and perception will become reality. This is not following the impeachment process set forth in the Constitution. This is a sham and is illegal on its face as is and was the entire Trump investigation.
What a garbage legacy for Pelosi and Schiff.
Always like to have joke references. Good one.
Fits perfectly today.
Interesting that Obama had approval numbers similar to Trump but Clinton’s were much higher.
I believe the Dems running for POTUS will be harmed as impeachment will take away the focus from them. It really is a stupid mistake for the Rats. Only a few months till the first caucuses/ primaries.
Hm. That IS interesting, considering that the media was pumping him up with a 1200 psi hose...and that was the best they could do.
Well, I guess you can polish a turd all you want, but in the end...it is still a turd!
“Bubba Clinton lied to a judge, in court.”
I (briefly) heard Savage ridicule that this afternoon, saying basically “every president lies” and it was all about sex, etc, and he had warned the Republicans, etc.
In that case, Al Capone’s heirs and dependents are owed baskets of cash in large bills, because the Feds had absolutely no evidence of murder and racketeering.
I read Clapper and Brennan are offering to “cooperate” with Durham — by bashing Trump.
“....starts more partisan than Bill Clinton’s...”
That’s because Slick Willie committed legitimate crimes that couldn’t be covered up, and BOTH sides knew it.
But they can be beneath something, if they push hard enough...
Extreme
Trump is no dummy, and hopefully there is someone in his army of attorneys who knows how to turn this thing around.
There’s a very real possibility that an impeachment vote that takes the case to the Senate might play precisely into Trump’s hands where he could counter with probable cause that reaches beyond a reasonable doubt of high crimes and treason committed by the very politicians pushing for impeachment.
Let’s see how this thing plays out. Let’s also watch for the Hand of Divine Providence.
But look on the bright side. No Republicans crossed over this time, and none crossed over in 1998. We have unity at least in that regard.
That will drastically alter the way that mid-term elections are carried out. Whoever has the White House will have to keep the House in the mid-term. No more gridlock.
Does anyone actually believe this country can actually hold an election anyone will respect?
You can bet that every single Trump voter respects the 2016 election results, and I would guess even a healthy share of Hillary Clinton voters are reasonable enough people to accept defeat. Dont let the fake news fool you - there is a fringe component of the Democrat party that disputes the election, but they are a tiny minority.
They make a lot of noise, aided by the ABCNNBCBS fake news, but there arent nearly as many of them as they would have you believe.
Anyway, President Trump will win by a much bigger margin in 2020 - he was a complete unknown in 2016 and still won - this time around he is running as an incumbent with a very strong economy and no foreign policy embarrassments - and because of the way the Democrats are behaving, he still gets to run as an outsider - a change candidate against the establishment. His base still loves him more than ever because he keeps his promises and he fights. And the Democrat party has not one single strong candidate on the bench.
He will win both the popular vote and the electoral college vote and there is a very good chance he will have enough coattails to win back Republican control of the House.
Hillary Clinton actually won the popular vote in 2016 and she still comes off as a sore loser making that claim. The 2020 results will be respected.
I remember her and Michael Moore were getting facetime together on TV, and they were both asserting that she had won, and the Constitution be damned, just on account of the popular vote. So there is a fringe component, yes. And the 2016 Democrat candidate is egging them on! She has been encouraging civil war from November 9, 2016, over her bruised ego, and may she rot in hell for it.
It is a fishing expedition looking for a crime. If it were a formal impeachment vote, like they are supposed to do, it would sit out specific charges they could look to investigate based on what evidence they have at that point. As of now it stands they are free to investigate whatever they want until they find something that suits their needs.
