Republicans shoot down White House plan to install Cuccinelli atop DHS

Republican senators are warning President Donald Trump that he cannot legally appoint immigration hard-liner Ken Cuccinelli to lead the Department of Homeland Security.

The White House and DHS lawyers, however, are continuing to work on a controversial end run around a federal law that prohibits Cuccinelli from serving as an acting secretary. It would likely face an immediate court challenge as well as the ire of members of his own party.

“The White House would be well advised to consult with the Senate and senators before they take any decisive action that might be embarrassing to Mr. Cuccinelli or to the White House itself,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who called the attempt to fill the top role at the department without Senate confirmations a “concern.”

If Trump goes. So will the GOP.

Yup. If that happens no sense in voting anyway, cause you know the lunatic Dem hordes will absolutely steamroll any opponent who isn't Trump.

I see that the Chamber of Commerce’s bought-and-paid-for Senators are at it again.

It’s leftist politico, therefore written with a leftist/RINO attitude. The Republicans of which they speak would be RINO establishment, or RINO establishment influenced Republicans IMO.

Regardless I don’t believe this an article of concern until I’m convinced the Republican party has turned against their self interests, and by that I mean the power handed them by supporting Trump. That power will be evident in the coming elections.

[These politicians can do and say stupid things because they’re etched in stone in Congress and nobody thinks they have a chance to run against these old fossils and win....and unfortunately they’re right most of the time..]

The real underlying reason no one runs is the lack of job security. It takes you out of your career track and defuses any upward career momentum you might have had. Imagine if you suggested to an accountant that he run for architect, with the proviso that he might be fired from his job once every few years, with no chance of ever becoming an architect again. Why would anyone with serious talent who was not already a zillionaire run for office, unless his alternative was being a bartender?

Just take a page from Chairman Obama’s Little Red Book and declare Cuccinelli to be your new “Homeland Security Czar”.

Back in 2009, Sen. John McCain said that Barack Obama had more Czars than the Romanovs.

Even the leftist Obama Lickers at Politifact rated that statement as TRUE.
They did some research and found that the Romanovs had 18 Czars and Obama had 28!

Once again, Republican elitists are the ones stopping a conservative from high office, not the democrats.

Republican elites in Virginia campaigned AGAINST Cuccinelli when he narrowly lost the race for governor because they and the Chamber of Commerce did not want a Cuccinelli stopping their open borders/cheap labor policies.

As a result, Democrats took over Virginia, and have in a few years successfully changed it into an East California. Illegal aliens and green card non-citizens vote in large numbers in Virginia, because the Democrats in the major cities are in complete control and allow it to happen. Next week, the democrats will take over the Virginia House and Senate, and along with the black face governor and attorney general will approve fourth trimester abortion, ranked voting, free medical care and tuition for illegals, sanctuary state status, and all the crap you see in California.

Once solidly Republican, Virginia will be a deep blue state for generations to come - thanks to Establishment Republicans not wanting to stop illegal immigration. But it won’t bother them. They’ll still live in gated enclaves with manicured lawns serviced by illegal aliens, sending their kids off to private schools.

“ WTF is wrong with the GOP!?”

GOP hasn’t changed. It’s the same party it was when it gave us Bush McCain and Romney for president. It’s the party of high-rolling special interests, not average people

I’m still technically registered Republican, but don’t really consider it my party anymore. Until Trump, I hadn’t voted Republican at the presidential level for 16 years.

Recent declaration: https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/publications/mgmt/human-resources/mgmt-dir_252-16-order-ceremonial-precedence-dhs-positions_rev-00.pdf

here’s an earlier this year opinion

https://llb2.com/2019/04/10/acting-dhs-secretary-appointment-violates-dhs-succession-act/

then there’s an Obama modification of an E.O. changing order of succession as such:

https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2016/12/09/executive-order-amending-order-succession-department-homeland-security

I believe the Pres. has successfully challenged this type of thing before (Dana Boente for one) under this:

“ Just take a page from Chairman Obama’s Little Red Book and declare Cuccinelli to be your new “Homeland Security Czar”.”

Trump has to be careful. He’s a hostage of the Senate GOP as long as this impeachment thing is going. “Nice little presidency you have there, it would be a shame if anything happened to it in the Senate trial”

Thanks, I read the first two and then stopped. I am not enough of a lawyer to understand what it means legally with respect to the president making an appointment. You seem to think POTUS has legal precedent for doing this before, so I guess I am happy to see it play out.

"What law is this running against?"

The court of public opinion is evidently not entitled to make judgements about this law any more than why PDJT is the target of politically correct impeachment. (Hint: PDJT won the Oval Office in 2016.)

These lying, thieving, do nothing punks have allowed our country to be trashed by every 3rd world POS to include freeloader trash from almost every South American, Central American, plus African and Muslim country. Our founding fathers never intended for Muslims and freeloaders to come here. We had 180 million in our country when I grew up. Now we have well over 320 million. The Lord’s Prayer that I said each day in school and still use clearly states “Thy/YOUR Will BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.” I doubt the nation was ever perfect, but; we are far from the morals and values I recall in the early 50’s-even 1968. I never noticed widespread sex until 66-70. I never saw hand outs until LBJ’s “Great Society” BS. Ted Kennedy ruined us with his Immigration Reform Acts. We must demand no more plus all must speak English, assimilate, learn our ways or get the hell out.

They want him to pick someone who once worked on obamas staff...I have had it with this govt and t least 50% of the population of this former great country...we are a laughing stock and embarrassment to ourselves and the world!

All that we and our nation has as benefits and resources as a people and place of live and we just chuck and f*ck it away on total nonsense sh*t daily!

Unhappy about every GD think and source of most everything that make me unhappy comes from the media airways and towers and from talking heads and breathing lungs that reside inside the circle that’s called DC.

If it were possible to _____________just inside the circle of DC it would solve so many of our problems...if you could envision and just believe in miracles!
