Washington (CNN)Former US Sen. Kay Hagan of North Carolina died Monday, her family said in a statement. She was 66.
"We are heartbroken to share that Kay left us unexpectedly this morning," the Hagan family said. "Kay meant everything to us, and we were honored to share her with the people of North Carolina whom she cared for and fought for so passionately as an elected official."

The Hagan/Tillis race was probably one of the best examples of odd election dynamics under Obama.
Tillis has been nearly as bad as Romney, Ryan, Alexander, Portman and many other GOP squishes. But, of course, he ran as a conservative and was certainly portrayed that way by his opponents (including the media).
Hagan had the Obama albatross to deal with. Despite agreeing with him on nearly every policy, she knew or had already seen that he was campaign trail poison despite the fawning press and bused-in crowds. And so, Obama visited NC multiple times to ‘help’ and Hagan magically found a reason each time to be not just out of the city in question but out of the state entirely.
It was hilarious slapstick - it should have been a sped-up film a la Benny Hill or Warner Bros but of course the humorless media didn’t report it that way.
I dunno what to say except my sister had stage four and survived. She is 83 now.
Keep the faith.
More likely it has something to do with Bob Dole actually taking the Viagara and acting on it. “Frosting the cookie” is still a very healthy activity as you age.
Hmmm...
Is guilt finally taking it’s toll?
I did the smartest thing by quitting my well paying and secure job at age 57 and retired! I had fainting spells at work with rapid heart beat and used to get panic attacks after entering a closed shopping mall where air was not fresh.
To kill time, I joined Orchard Hills golf and country club for $5000 initiation fee and $250/month dues for unlimited golf privileges. Began walking 3 then 4 then 5 rounds of 18 every week. My health made a 180 degree turn around. Gone were the fainting spells, no more panic attacks, blood pressure got down closer to normal range and energy levels sky rocketed.
No longer playing golf in hot and muggy Florida, but religiously do treadmill at 24 min/mile pace with 3 deg up-slope, 4 times every week for 30 minutes each. Feeling really great, no aches, no pills! Age 100 is looking attainable...just can’t give up the treadmill routine. Medicare must be happy, I have zero medical bills!
Psychojawea was infected with Powhatan virus, what a coincidence
Good for you!
Best luck getting to 101!
At 76, nearly 77, but presently without cancer, they all bother me because so many of my age, and younger, are dropping.
44 men have been President (I'm counting Cleveland only once). 5 of them are still alive so 39 have died. Of the 39, 14 were younger than 66 when they died (4 of those because they were assassinated), and another 5 were in the 66 to 68 year range when they died. The median age at death for those who are deceased is 70. (Four of the five living Presidents are past 70 now so the median will rise.) That is better than the average life expectancy was for most of American history, but most Presidents were past their 50th birthday when they first took office.
TY kindly, but do not place any large bets on it LOL
Cancer sucks. God bless you.
2 main reasons for dying before age 75,
(1) Cancer due to hereditary genes or self induced bad habits such as smoking and drinking too much
(2) Lack of vigorous regular exercise after age 55.
With today’s medicine and infra-structure in USA, few should be dying before age 75.
I hope all Freepers are following healthy habits for longevity. We need them all to keep the country going to dogs with liberals and import of low quality immigrants.
From one Texan to another.
I was diagnosed with lung cancer in the Summer of 2017. After three months of chemo and rad treatments.....I am now cancer-free! M. D. Anderson did it!
Of course, I still have to go for tests one a year, but otherwise, I live a normal life.
Good luck and prayers to you.
Hearty congrats for surviving Cancer! What stage was it at when discovered?
My wife has stage-4 and still going on after almost 2 years when diagnosed. From what I am observing, cancer is more a chronic disease now instead of a fatal one. She did radiation and now doing chemo & immuno-therapy. We are doing a cruise in November!
GOOD, a Democrat, are you serious.
Isn’t she the one that could have taken cummings seat?
You have FRmail.
