36 Years ago TODAY!
“We have two companies of Marines running rampant all over the northern half of this island, and three Army regiments pinned down in the southwestern corner doing nothing. What the hell is going on”?
Gen. John W. Vessey Jr., USA, Chairman of the the Joint Chiefs of Staff
during the assault on Grenada, 1983
I was in college. In an elevator. With a bunch of liberals listening incredulously to reports on a transistor radio.
If I recall correctly there were a few things which went wrong. We had enough force and bravery to overcome them.
There were LOTS of things the went VERY Wrong with this Operation. Chief among others were and COMPLETE Lack of Common Communications between the 2 Ground Elements(Army and Marines). Both services Comm Equipment could not even talk to each other. There were Chain of Command Issues as well. This Operation and other led to the Jointness Concept put forth by Goldwater/Nichols Defense Re-Org Act of 1986.
I was an 11th grader at Catholic School in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico -- and, of course, many vessels used for the invasion came out of Roosevelt Roads in Ceiba, P.R. My Dad was a LTCDR in the USCG Reserve in Old San Juan, so he was on duty for a whole week on base upon initial talk about President Reagain (May he Rest in Peace) ordering the invasion.
We'll never forget Dame Eugenia Charles, Prime Minister of Dominica, who first advised the US about certain activities in Grenada from the Cubans and the Soviets. She was the Maggie Thatcher of the Caribbean.
I enjoy watching Heartbreak Ridge, with Clint Eastwood, about the invasion. It was filmed in Vieques, Puerto Rico.
And finally, we pray for those who did not make it. May they all Rest In Peace.
Reagain = Reagan
Thank you for your service.
I have a nephew — army — who was there.
I remember they were building a 10,000 foot runway which is nearly 2 miles long.
Obviously not needed by Granada. Made for Soviet Bombers.
My ex was there (Marine).
::And finally, we pray for those who did not make it. May they all Rest In Peace.::

Amen
Awesome. Thanks for your service and why we didnt just occupy and turn it into our territory is beyond me s/
One Navy officer who came onshore couldn’t communicate with his ship so he used his calling card to call the Pentagon from a payphone(remember them?)and had them radio the information. Next there were the TOURIST MAPS to find their way around. Last don’t forget the film of the ‘rescued’ medical student kissing the ground. All this happened 5 days AFTER the marines were bombed in Beruit.
Beiruit. One of the wounded soldiers died on his flight to hospital at Ramstein AB in Germany. He could have been taken to one in Israel where we give billions in military aid. Standard barricades to block the path of a suicide bomber were not used. Advice was not wanted. Even using vehicles so that a winding path to the hotel/barracks would slow down a vehicle packed with explosives were not used. All the marines were cooped up in one spot. Go figure.
Thanks for the info. There are lots that went on that the public have no idea really happened..
Wasn’t there a Spec Op FUBAR in this operation where some operators drowned from being overloaded with gear?
Something like that?
I was there too. Flying 32 K feet above in a recce. 19.5 hour mission. Latrine only lasted 16 LOL.
That’s interesting... remember the congressman who was coordinating his votes with the Cubans during the Grenada/Russian runway business?
His name was Ron Dellums...
Now, fast forward to the Magnitsky Act that was passed in response to the Russians’ invasion of the Crimea...
Who did the Russians hire to lobby against the Magnitsky Act?
Ron Dellums. Dellums was working with Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer who set up the Trump Tower meeting as part of Russiagate after miraculously being allowed into the country.

from another thread:
The African American Association was first organized in the early 1960s by African American students at the University of California, Berkeley. Among the founding members were community leaders such as Khalid Al-Mansour (known then as Don Warden); future Judges Henry Ramsey and Thelton Henderson; future Congressman and Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums; and future Black Panthers Huey Newton and Bobby Seale.
