The Seattle Public Schools Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee (ESAC) released a rough draft of notes for its Math Ethnic Studies framework in late September, which attempts to connects math to a history of oppression.
The framework is broken into four different themes: Origins, Identity, and Agency, Power and Oppression, History of Resistance and Liberation, and Reflection and Action.
The committee suggests that math is subjective and racist, saying under one section, Who gets to say if an answer is right, and under another, how is math manipulated to allow inequality and oppression to persist?
Jason Rantz of KTTH in Seattle noted that, ESAC is made up of a number of educators and was created due to a legislature mandate to advise, assist, and make recommendations to the office of the superintendent of public instruction regarding the identification of ethnic studies materials.'
It is also stated in the document that Western mathematics is used to disenfranchise people and communities of color.

The kicker is, these people don’t really believe math is inherently racist.
They have adopted this position to further their aims of Social Revolution. Because they know the people who will be most incensed by the concept are those too stupid to know it’s BS.
It’s been a while, but my sharp memory recalls that in very integrated schools, exactly ONE black student (a young woman named Bernadette) was in a math class, from 8th grade on. Are we to believe that this was because the school system did not allow minority students to take Algebra, etc.?
Public schools “oppress” minority children if they do not require them to master basic skills such as arithmetic before leaving elementary school, then mathematics at appropriate ages.
The “oppression” is the dumbing down of courses year after year after year to accommodate the most stupid students. This hits minorities the hardest and they can spend an entire year on something as simple as “one-half” and not master it. My sister has been teaching middle school math for almost 45 years and she has seen this up close.

So if modern manufacturing techniques require statistical quality control..............these idiots want to make sure the US citizens will not be able to compete in a global market. Like that is going to help raise living standards among communities of color.
Do they realize that much of modern mathematics is really from Arab origins? We use Arabic numbers not Roman Numerals, right?

Thank you, perhaps I over reacted to what I read, but still it is stupid, even for social studies.
Mathematics is not racist because it is based on reality. Like every other science, mathematics applies to reality because it is derived from our observations or reality. It is a valid objective conceptualization of facts, which are ultimately reducible to observed similarities and differences.
Only for very large values of 2. ;-P
