Australian airline Qantas has made aviation history, setting a new record for the longest non-stop commercial flight. The journey from New York to Sydney was part of a series of test flights to help the airline launch new ultra-long-haul routes. To give the plane sufficient fuel range, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off with a full tank, a restricted baggage load, and just 49 people on board.

Thirteen hours is the longest I have ever done. And that seemed like an eternity.

49 passengers, there might be room to actually sleep on the flight.

Longest in my experience was 16 hours, New York to Mumbai on a 777. Before that 14 hours Detroit to Seoul on a 747. Not a trip suitable for anyone with the slightest case of claustrophobia.

Nice job and done by private industry.

Same here. I did 13 hours. I don’t think I want to do a flight any longer than that. Stopover if I must.

I flew 15 hours nonstop from LAX to Sydney and I agree. Too long a flight for me.

Yes, Seattle over the pole to Schiphol usually. Long enough!
I wish I could sleep on airplanes.

I used to fly Delhi-Chicago RT 5x per year. I enjoyed it. Finally figured out an extra trip would get me enough status to fly business class, so the last 2 years I was always up front, which I enjoyed even more.

787, 49 passengers, limited baggage, limited cargo (helicopter blades...ect) full fuel load.
Not much of a business plan.
Boeing needs to add in air refueling.
