Trump to host G7 at his own Florida resort property
CNN ^ | October 17, 2019 | Maegan Vazquez

White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney announced during a White House press briefing that the 2020 G7 summit will be held at Trump National in Doral, Florida, from June 10-12.

"We used the same set of criteria that previous administrations have used," Mulvaney said.

He said Doral was "far and away the best physical facility for this meeting."

President Donald Trump is sure to receive criticism and will face questions about whether he stands to profit financially from the large summit. Trump has received such criticism in the past for hosting foreign leaders, including China's President Xi Jinping, at his Mar-a-Lago golf club in Florida.

How so?

According to Mick Mulvaney after looking over all the sites on the final list. It is a golf course with a lot of open space so I would think security might be a little easier.

Security is already in place there. How do you figure? It's the Doral not Mar-a-Lago.

Where are Gn meetings usually held, palaces, estates, retreats?

What makes those other places more or less secure than any other resort complex in the world?

One could (and should) argue that having the G7 at Doral is a "Reverse Emoluments."

I'd argue that it's the foreigners who would be enticed to comply by having the meeting at Doral, rather than Trump being enticed by "emoluments" from having the meeting at Doral.

They’re not in a blind trust. He still owns what he owned when he went into office. You’re suggesting he’s not aware that the Doral is his property.

True, but that would be if you’re using logic instead of shrieking BS and repeating it in defiance of logic. Lies can travel twice around the world before the truth can get its boots on, so lies are stronger, and might makes right unless right fights. Joe Goebbels concurs.

Anyway, it was a quid quo pro. He lets them stay at Doral in exchange for dirt on Joe Biden. He’s negotiating with Turkey to stop killing Kurds so that the Kurds will dig up dirt on Elizabeth Warren. In fact, all foreigners who have any dealings at all with the US are doing so on condition that they dig up dirt on political opponents. Those illegal Mexicans get to stay if they give up the goods on Beto. We must build a wall to keep them out, so that Beto can be the next POTUS. Deprived of his Mexicans, Beto will beat Trump like a drum./s

You know, any foreign leader who kicks up a divot on the 5th fairway at Doral as they try to hit the green while golfing in President Trump's foursome can be said to be "digging up dirt" to help Trump.

Trump's accountants are surely keeping very accurate books on these payments to his properties and his deposits to the Treasury. Some day Trump will be attacked about this and will respond.

If maralago is his private property then it would be handled one way. If it’s a business, he put all his business in blind trust, just like any other president before him. I personally don’t know and either way I don’t care where he hosts the G7.

Agreed.

Its so secure that they caught a Chinese woman spy trying to sneak in a few Months ago, she had devices to fiddle with the computers. She acted dumb and disoriented as the Chicoms had trained her.

Leave the rabble at the gates and let our President make the deals on his secure golf course!

Seems to me that other Presidents have hosted foreign leaders at their personal residences. Like Putin@ the ranch. And wasn’t Marlargo at one time “the Southern Whitehouse” till Carter sold the place? Or am I remembering wrong?

Marlargo is already secure, seems to me it would be less expensive for secret service and all to set up stuff. POTUS can/will do it at cost-no profit to him.

I’ve really had it with these dishonest people who have millions and billions funneling off to foundations and family members that they use for their personal benefit.

Then they are pointing a finger at people who have more integrity in their little finger than the DemCRAPs have in the entire bodies of themselves and their family.

What a travesty of dishonesty these people are.

According to Wikipedia's list of G8 Summit locations, the second summit was held in Puerto Rico in 1976.

The site, chosen by President Gerald Ford, was the Dorado Beach Hotel and Country Club, which was owned by Nelson Rockefeller's brother Laurance's company RockResorts.

In other words, the second G7 Summit was held at the family-owned resort of the Vice-President of the United States.

Precedence or emoluments?

I tend to agree. This is one move that has clear blow-back potential. I think he is pushing the limits to see what he can get away with. I think the optics are poor on this, but I expect I am in the small minority here.
