Gov. Andrew Cuomo is stirring up controversy by using the N-word during a live radio interview in New York.
The New York Post reports Cuomo was on the air with Albanys WAMC Public Radio Tuesday when he was asked about criticism of Columbus Day and efforts to rename the holiday Indigenous Peoples Day. The governor brought up a recent New York Times op-ed about the treatment of Italian-Americans and spoke about racism.
They used an expression that southern Italians were called, I believe they were saying southern Italians, Sicilians Im half Sicilian were called, quote-unquote and pardon my language, but Im just quoting the Times: n----r wops. N-word wops, as a derogatory comment, Cuomo told host Alan Chartock.
The racial epithet was uncensored and heard clearly by listeners.
When I said that wop was a derogatory comment, that was when the Times-Union told me, no, you should look in Wikipedia, wop really meant a dandy, Cuomo continued.

WOP isn’t derived from a BAD Italian word. Not a very complimentary one either.
But only a ####ing moron would think it’s not been used as a derogatory term forever now.
SMFH
And I don’t know WHO THE #### told him it meant a “dandy” but it wasn’t anyone who knows the Italian language or culture AT ALL.
And no it NEVER meant WithOut Papers
Why, he must be a white KKK supremacist!
“True Romance”. Dennis Hopper’s last scene.
And so what? The governor of Virginia dresses in black face.
Racism is just considered hip in the liberal circles.
Who’s the Fredo now?
Butt Papa John CEO had to resign............
Wait a minute ... I thought “Fredo” was the new *N* word ???
(Well, at least it is to his brother, Fredo (Chris) .... )
So did Trudeau, a few times, and he’s still PM..libs have different standards
I cannot imagine why he can’t use that word and in that context. Have we all gone insane?
Wow, what a bonehead.
What about Daego or Daigo?
Bad as that word is to use in polite company and much as I loathe Cuomo, I’ll defend him on this since he wasn’t using it to deride black people but, instead, to show how Italians were treated and he was using it in quotes. That being so, it was an appropriate use of the word, which definitely shouldn’t be banned from the English language.
It reminds me of people who want to ban Huckleberry Finn because it uses the 'N' word. Bigger morons I cannot conceive.
“FOP” means a dandy.
Not “WOP”.
Italian Air Force has no helicopters because the big blade goes wop-wop-wop and the little blade goes guinea-guinea-guinea.
Andrew Cuomo, the guy who created the slogan “Vote for Cuomo not the homo” when his father was running against Ed Koch who was never proven to be gay. THIS guy is lecturing us about tolerance.
Cuomo said he was quoting the NY Times and asked the pardon of his listeners.
He’s just explaining history, which isn’t always nice.
Oh, come on, I am Polish, and I laugh at Polock jokes...
