NBA superstar LeBron James was skewered Monday night after he criticized as "misinformed" a general manager's tweet supporting Hong Kong's ongoing pro-democracy protests and then doubled down in a damage control tweet, saying the online show of support for the embattled demonstrators "could have waited a week."
James, who's considered one of the more outspoken athletes on social justice issues in a league that prides itself on being one of the most progressive in sports, was uncharacteristically deferential to NBA and Chinese leadership in his remarks about Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey's tweet of a slogan "Fight for freedom. Stand with Hong Kong" expressing support for those marching in Hong Kong.
The single tweet from Morey's personal account was soon deleted, but not before spurring a rebuke from some within the NBA and inciting a backlash in China. Authorities in the communist country last week canceled publicity events and news conferences and banned the broadcast last week of an exhibition game between the Brooklyn Nets and James' Los Angeles Lakers.
Im not here to judge how the league handled the situation," the perennial All-Star told reporters in Los Angeles on Monday night. "I just think that, when youre misinformed or youre not educated about something and Im just talking about the tweet itself you never know the ramifications that can happen. We all see what that did, not only did for our league but for all of us in America, for people in China as well. Sometimes you have to think through the things that you say that may cause harm not only for yourself but for the majority of people. I think thats just a prime example of that.

Trump the Orange Man: BAD
ChiCom Despots who run over their people with tanks and sell their organs on the black market: GOOD
As a Cavaliers fan, it’s very satisfying to see LeBron step on his lo mein once again with another PR disaster.
As PDJT said; dummy
China = Land of the Free.
If inner city folk don't want to be slaves, they should stop spending money because LeBron and his ilk tell them it's cool.
Didn't those uppity slaves who did the dirty work of keeping the other slaves happy used to be called "Uncle Toms". Does that apply to a whole lot of blacks in media, entertainment, and sports?
It's way past time for LeBron to get off his throne. He's outlived his usefulness.
I dont think a lot of people was educated
Lebron James on the 2016 election
12+ Years An NBA Slave
Way to put that high school education to work James
LeBron had NO CLUE what he was posting. Stoopid is as stoopid does.
Big money talks BIGLY!!!!!
And lebron has a BILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT WITH NIKE.
The hand you cannot bite, you must kiss!!!
And other body parts too.
That is actually a BIG problem with the NBA.
You try and raise your children to believe that strong values, hard work, perseverance and education will lead them to the rewards of prosperity.
And then an outfit comes along which lavishes Rockefeller-sized fortunes on people with two-digit IQs.
It sends all the wrong messages to young people. Especially minority young people.
Then the advertising goes:
"Live on television! The Hong Kong crackdown sponsored by Nike and the National Basketball Association."
Lebron,
Stay in your lane.
LeBron is just your typical over-indulged BLACK(There I said it) athlete. He, obviously, has a below average intellect yet thinks he is a genius on every subject.
China is good for the NBA and Nike. That is all he needs to know. LeBron could care less about the human rights abuses and the re-education camps set up for the Chinese Muslim population.
It all comes down to the DOLLAR for LeBron. If he makes money that is all that matters.
Seeing Lebron James describe ANYONE as "misinformed" or "not educated" is just about the funniest thing I've come across in weeks.
....and the guy he calls misinformed went to Northwestern and MIT.
