Sen. Rand Paul told NBC's "Meet the Press" that the situation with the Syrian Kurds is much more complex than it appears at first glance and detailed some of the history involved.
CHUCK TODD: Joining me now is Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky. He also sits on the Foreign Relations Committee senate side. Senator Paul is also the author of the new book "The Case Against Socialists." Senator Paul, welcome back to Meet the Press, sir.
SEN. RAND PAUL, (R) KENTUCKY: Thanks, Chuck. Thanks for having me.
TODD: Let me start with the news of the morning. I hope you caught our report from Richard Engel and what he's seen on the ground.
I know where your views are philosophically, and I want to get to that in a minute. But are you concerned that this decision was too hasty and it sort of created a more chaotic situation than necessary?
PAUL: Well, I think one of the things about the Arab militias that Turkey is using that your reporter reported on, it's interesting that some are from the Free Syrian Army, which was our ally for seven years, which just shows how messy this is. Turkey is an ally, the Free Syrian Army was an ally for seven years, and the Kurds have been allies in Syria, so it's a very complicated, messy situation.

Turkeys got nothing, Syria even less, and the Kurds have less than that. Theres nothing between them that would make me want to send my two sons to die for.
Any of these war hawks who are critical of Trump are more than welcome to encourage their own children to go. Soldier of Fortunes are a valid outlet for those willing to die for someone elses cause.
Its time to pull our people home. From Syria. From Afghanistan. From Iraq. From Germany. From Japan.
From everywhere.
The world is a miserable place, but its not our place to die for it.

Actually ee not only can but are forcing peace on Turkey.
Lindsey Grahm acting with the President is going to produce congressional sanctions that will cripple Turkey. Erdogaan thinks he is bullet proof but can,t comprehend the outright destrudtion of his economy.
The Rats refuse to defend our own border yet want to spill our blood in a foreign land to protect theirs! Such stupidity!
Which guy are you referring to, Trump or Romney?
There’s no doubt in my mind that Trump would retaliate immediately. My doubt rests with Congress.
Lee, I too was gung to going into Iraq. Three things soured me. Bush tossing soldiers under the bus with the Abu-whatever prison thing. Bush refusing to bomb mosques that had weapons caches. And the picture of the Iraqi lady in a Burka with a purple finger showing how we turned Iraq into a democracy. I was starting to sour on all this by 2005 or 6
Neither, I was referring to Senator Rand Paul.
The Establishment started these endless wars with Vietnam.
I would like to know who ordered our troops into an area where they would get hit?
Whoever gave the order should be investigated as possible operative. Meaning pull all his information, bank accounts, etc...
At worse this was done on purpose to embarrassed President Trump, with no regards to the lives of our troops, and at best the officer is just incompetent. In either case the Officer who decided this should be immediately relived and removed.
DO NOT TRUST RAND PAUL! (His neighbor kicked some of the sh*t outta him!)
Questions for people who want us to back the Kurds:
How long are we going to garrison the Middle East?
What countries will we take land from to form the Kurdish state?
How many people are we going “ethnically cleanse” from that area for the Kurds - or will the Kurds have to do that themselves?
How many flag-draped coffins are you willing to see shipped home to achieve this?
How many billions of dollars of taxpayer dollars are you willing to pay to create and sustain a Kurdish state?
Are you willing to go to war to protect the Kurdish state when their PO’d neighbors decide to annihilate it?
The Middle East is a miserable, stinking dumpster fire. Bring our troops home.
and if we did all that, how long would it last?
Probably a few years or less and they’d be fighting each other again. It’s the way of islam. When they have no one else to conquer, it’s muslim vs muslim time again.
If Turkey doesn’t resettle its 4 million Syrian refugees in Syria, they will send them to Europe, and some will find their way to the US.
This is sleight of hand on Turkey’s part, because they want to use a 30 mile strip of border between Syria and Turkey as the resettlement zone. Of course, those Syrians are not Kurds, that border area is primarily Kurdish, and those Syrian refugees would be less amenable to Kurdish struggles for land in both Turkey and Syria.
It makes perfect sense that we don’t pick sides in this age old battle between TUrks and Kurds. Both are allies, except for the communist/terrorist Kurdish groups such as the PKK.
Also, both are islamic. That means they will lie through their teeth to get their way. It’s considered an admirable quality in Islam.
USA does not defend its own borders.
Yeah, I forgot that part:
The Kurds are divided into multiple mutually hostile factions. How do we stop a continuous civil war in brand new Kurdistan?
Strange thing is, once you ask about how many dead Americans are enough the pro-Kurd types usually shut up.
Fair point. By the way, I did 2 1/2 years in the 2SD at Hood in the early 80s - 522nd MI BN and 2/1 CAV.
We've been in these hellholes years and years and years LONGER than we spent fighting World War I and World War II TOGETHER.
Endless wars are part of the culture and religion of the region... After a trillion dollars spend and massive American blood, these people will be loyal to us for a week or two... There nothing there that's any of our business. Our corrupt 'elites' will have to find someone else to shake down for the 'speeches' fees and butt kissing episodes.
And we we won it. Britain was begging to get us into the war. We were The Arsenal Of Democracy. Our near limitless manpower and industrial might and the fighting spirit of the American soldier and the unity of the American worker, ‘The Rosie The Riveters’’ won the war.
