Successful women face special barriers in love and marriage, according to one relationship coach. But that doesnt mean they cant still strive for a happily ever after.
On October 9, the Washington Examiner published an opinion piece on, Why super-successful women struggle in love. Relationship expert and author Suzanne Venker claimed that few, if any, women can have both power in the world and power in bed. While she backed up her arguments, her piece left something to be desired by women: encouragement.
Venker began by referencing a Wall Street Journal piece, arguing that As women have become more and more rich, love has indeed become more and more elusive.
She pointed to an email about one of the women dealing with this very problem written by the womans mother.
Id like to talk to you about my daughter whos a high achiever, the mom began. Shes a thirty-eight-year-old, well-educated (two Ivy League schools), creative, intelligent, sophisticated, loving, successful, attractive, with a model-like body, and surprisingly cant find a desired partner.
While previously she wasted many years on several senseless relationships, her daughter is extremely unhappy that she doesnt have a partner, or children.
In response, Venker urged that not only do successful single women struggle, but also women who serve as the primary breadwinner. There are many reasons why love becomes a struggle the more successful women become, she said, including the pursuit of a post-secondary education and career.
Jumping in full throttle and making work the center of ones life, as young women are encouraged to do, invariably means this group will be unable to take advantage of their greatest marital bargaining power, she said.
That main bargaining power appeared to be beauty.

You know, as a woman who has been a woman and been a woman successfully, I resent that only woman who also have lucrative careers are seen as “successful”.
What are the vast majority of us then? Losers?
I am not reading this article.
Stereotypes exist for a reason. They could not pull it off unless there were large numbers of young women who are essentially bent that way.
Bridezilla behavior at weddings tells me I am not wrong.
All this talk omits the fact that women have long hair so they can be drug to the back of the cave to have sex
"I'll Sock It To Ya, Daddy!"
and no husband?
... But if one is a successful woman who has all the toughness barriers in place to support her success, one does not know how to surrender.
Or is terrified of losing themselves,
not realizing that one has to die before they are reborn, healed
“She looks college-aged or younger. That full head of long hair being the dead giveaway.”
Another being that butt, which is three inches higher than it will be in ten or so years.
Right now she’s enjoying her prime of having guys hitting on her all the time while she has to fight them off with a stick.
But as the Romans once said, “all glory is fleeting”.
Oh WTF ispower in bed? Geez!
Cowgirl
Reverse Cowgirl
I would have a very hard time wanting to be with any woman who has only sought, kept, and valued, bad, useless, long-term relationships.
No decent man should touch her.
Why does the title say she is a successful woman? Perhaps both her and the author needs to think about what success means.
“Wealth, Status, and Power...
As addictive as Cocaine, but never satisfying”
Wealth, status, power, and throw in a job they love — that’s what they mean by “successful woman”. Nothing about running a household, nurturing their children.
Nothing about serving rather than being served and being admired by semi-strangers.
It is a shame I can no longer reccomend this site to young people, relatives, church members, ladies, etc due to some of the comments.
It is really my mistake. I thought this was a family friendly site.
In 2 sentence.
Plus they think, that what makes them hot for men (power, rising in the world) is what makes men want *them*.
But the character traits you develop to acquire power, are the very opposite of what a man wants in a woman!
Free Speech is a rough game.
Like football, back in the days before they wussified it.
Not for the faint of heart.
I suppose that’s why the Dallas Cowboys keep insisting that we refer to them as “The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders” and not “The Cowgirls”.
When I started college, the nurses I worked with would ask me if I was married. And all said good thing I wasn’t married.
Because they usually divorce after the woman starts college.
Women keep getting into relationships with men who are “out of their league”, but who are willing to keep them around fox sex, until a woman they like better comes along.
I have an older female friend whos first boyfriend was a billionaire with two Lear jets. They dated for three years.
Ever since, shes dated attorneys, businessmen, and many other higher profile men. Most all are divorced, which she sees as making them inherently undesirable at some level, and when the men dont keep her entertained enough, she complains and the relationship ends.
Shes now beyond her 50s and unmarried, but very desirous of being married. Shes told me she had the opportunity to marry many nice men, but they all seemed boring and had less money than shed become accustomed to being around.
She has no one to fall back on and her health and drive have waned to where she finds it very hard to get to work each day. She sees marriage as her out from these circumstances.
What can anyone do to positively impact that aside from encouraging her to live her life for Christ and if something happens, it happens?
Thanks for the straight lines. I’ll pass.
Excellent response. The mother needed to stop at “38 year old”. Men don’t find old women attractive. It’s nature. Just as women want to marry “up”, that’s nature too.
Young women need a reality check and it’s up to parents to let them know if they want marriage/children then they’d better start working on it when they’re 20 not 30.
