A 12-year-old Kansas girl was arrested – as in, hauled out of school in handcuffs, charged with a crime, and was handed a court date – for making a “finger gun” and pointing it at fellow students.
According to the Kansas City Star, police in Overland Park “hauled her out of school in handcuffs, arrested her and charged the child with a felony for threatening” after the middle-schooler pointed the “finger gun” at other students before pointing it at herself.
Johnson County District Court documents obtained by the Kansas City Star claim the child “unlawfully and feloniously communicated a threat to commit violence, with the intent to place another, in fear, or with the intent to cause the evacuation, lock down or disruption in regular, ongoing activities.”
According to the news outlet, the whole thing started when a fellow student asked the girl “if she could kill five people in the class, who would they be?” The girl then allegedly pointed her fingers in the shape of a gun at several other students in the class. The teacher sent her to the principal’s office, where the school resource officer recommended she be arrested.
She was eventually turned over to her mother and hearing in the Juvenile Division of the District Court of Johnson County is scheduled for Tuesday. The child’s family was reportedly told that if convicted of a felony, she could face up to a year in a juvenile detention center.

I'm not saying we were geniuses or anything but it worked. Of course in modern public schools the game would be banned because "kill" is a banned word and "the man" is too binary-centric and exclusionary. "Ball" is probably offensive to someone too, so that's out. Let's just draw on the pavement with chalk. Oops, the state of california has determined that this chalk based product (and every other product made anywhere for any purpose) may cause cancer. Shoot. We'll just sit here quietly and wait for school to start.

If that's all that happened I don't see a conviction, and the school deserves ridicule.

Probably will receive a special scholarship for future educators. I would not at all be surprised to hear of a teacher giving this question as an essay assignment.

In context I can see the school requesting the parents take her for psych evaluation. But an arrest? No.
This is Overland Park, Kansas. The stupid seems to congregate in large crowds of people.
She needs to learn how to make the “Fake hand grenade” where you pretend to pull the pin and throw it. Right ther, there’s no evidence. With the girl, she still has her fingers for proof.
