Three men were killed Friday night when they crashed a vehicle into a barrier activated by a security forces gate sentry at Robins Air Force Base, according to a base news release.
The Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the FBI have been asked to help in identifying the men, said Houston Coroner Danny Galpin.
The men had no identification on them, said Galpin, who was summoned to the crash scene.
The incident unfolded about 9:30 p.m. when a vehicle approached the Russell Parkway gate that is an entrance way onto the base, according the release.
The driver failed to stop as ordered by the gate sentry, who activated a security barrier when the vehicle sped through the gate, according to the release.
The vehicle hit the barrier at a high rate of speed, the release said.
Galpin said the barriers are down in the ground, but rise when activated.
The driver and one passenger were pronounced dead on scene, the release said. The other passenger was taken to Houston Medical Center, where he later died, according to the release.
Even odder that the vehicle did not explode !
ltr
I love a happy ending.
“No weapons were found in the vehicle, said Galpin, who declined additional comment.”
I remember something similar way back in 1967 Walker AFB in Roswell NM. A pickup with camper sped through front gate so fast and in just a few minutes was on the flight line with the B-52 bombers.
The “Apes” (Air Police) got them. None could speak English, and the camper was full of illegals from Mexico.
I blew through the gates of an Air Reserve Base when I was going there for a test. Holy shit...they do not mess around.
Although when everyone settled down, they told me some idiot drove past the gates two or three times a week.
Not very many Ford Pintos left in the population.
Pop up barriers get up fast and are designed to stop heavy duty loads. My surprise is it didnt explode when it hit. Sounds like a terrorist thing.

More the Allah Ackbar design
No ID. Hmmmmm.
That is bizarre.
We Brats were taught early on to do exactly what the MPs said.
I seem to recall other cars crashing into barriers at bases in the last 10 or so years.
With that statement, it sounds like it was a vehicle with some of their own military folks in it.
Former AF Security Forces here. If you are a perceived threat to US Air Force resources anywhere in the world, we are fully trained, equipped and authorized to F you up.
