The head of the FBI is speaking out against Facebook’s decision to add encryption to its Messenger program. While speaking to law enforcement officials in Washington Friday, FBI Director Christopher Wray said law enforcement agencies could lose the ability to find criminals online and bring them to justice.
The new encryption would shield communication between users from surveillance and the content would also be inaccessible by the company, meaning agencies can’t get access even with a warrant.
Director Wray continued by saying Facebook’s plan would create a lawless space for child predators without fear of consequences.
“Facebook would transform from the main provider of child exploitation tips to a dream come true for predators and child pornographers,” he stated. “A platform that allows them to find and connect with kids and like minded criminals with little fear of consequences.”
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg defended the decision to encrypt messages, saying the platform will still be able to identify child predators by using the same tools it uses to combat election interference. Despite this, Attorney General William Barr and officials from the U.K. are pushing Facebook to drop its encryption plans.

The greater evil between Facebook and deep state surveillance?
I didn’t know that Wray was still alive. What a useless FBI director.
Wray can’t find criminals when the are sitting right next to him.
Both bad. But the most evil is the one that can legally deprive of your life or liberty.
Deep state fed agencies. More dangerous than anyone to US citizens.
The cops have other tools for catching bad guys. They don’t need to spy on society.
If you can trust the public with guns, you can trust them with encryption.
And a dream come true for the Deep State.
Christopher Wray is a Deep State hack.. Chris Christie recommended him… Part of the resistance... Wray worked under Comey and with Mueller… should be fired.

Maybe if you were serious about stopping the corruption inside the FBI, people would trust you more when you call out against the use of encryption.

Would you rather have privacy, or give in to government surveillance so others decide if you’ve done something wrong?
I hate Messenger, but sometimes it’s the only way you can share interesting posts with people. Weird that it would be heavily encrypted, though.
FB is a wonderful platform, and my non-profit uses it - but the leftist political manipulation is going to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.
Criminals could simply encrypt their own messages and send them via Facebook. Then what would LEA say?
