Car2go rentals in Chicago will no longer be offered as of Jan. 1, 2020, less than two years after the company arrived here with 400 eco-friendly cars available to rent. The company is ending service Oct. 31 in Austin, Calgary, Denver and Portland.
It is an app-based service that lets users reserve rental cars, drive them then leave them at designated parking spots. Rides cost between 29 cents and 39 cents per minute.
The company suspended services in Chicago earlier this year after a rash of vehicle thefts.
In April, 21 people were charged after more than 100 car2go-owned Mercedes-Benzes were stolen in the city.

Gee, who could have predicted that?
Ah, Chicago....
‘Car2go’ becomes ‘cargone’.
What?!? Im still usin it!
And they were renting Mercedes instead of beaters in chicongo of all places.
I feel bad for any rental service like that. Just knowing human nature inhibits me from starting up anything of the sort.
Maybe the CEO was not a Chicago native. This happens a lot with ‘almost free’ travel items. In California, there have been similar services for bicycles and scooters.
Some people use as expected, with responsibility.
Others have left the scooters in the San Francisco Bay or homeless encampments of Golden Gate Park. Some have been set on fire by folks tired of seeing them clog the sidewalks.
When nobody takes responsibility for something then nobody cares what happens to it.
“And they were renting Mercedes instead of beaters in chicongo of all places.”
because car2go is owned by Daimler AG ...
“What were they thinking?”
I know! They should’ve started out with the leftover inventory of Deloreans floating around out there! ;)
“owned by Daimler AG’
They still could have bought a lot more Ford fiestas and not lost too much dinero.
Ghetto taxis.
Glad there's a 60 mile wide moat between that place and here.
Sounds like the developers of the company were on par with people who hike in islamic countries to prove “they are just like us”.
Maybe this is the reason to leave

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) named Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker (D) September 2019 Porker of the Month for signing a $40.1 billion budget without any spending restraints and $1.4 billion in pork-barrel projects.
223.9 billion shortfall, which breaks down to a debt burden of $52,600 per taxpayer. The state has $6 billion in unpaid bills and the lowest credit rating of any state in the country. Its unfunded pension liability tops $130 billion. Illinois taxpayers are so saddled with debt, taxes, corrupt local government, and dwindling middle-class jobs that 157,000 residents have left over the past five years.
