Trump Pressed Australian Leader to Help Barr Investigate Mueller Inquiry’s Origins
NYT ^ | 09/30/19 | Mark Mazzetti and Katie Benner

Posted on 09/30/2019 1:48:42 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

The discussion was another instance of the president using American diplomacy for potential personal gain.

President Trump pushed the Australian prime minister during a recent telephone call to help Attorney General William P. Barr gather information for a Justice Department inquiry that Mr. Trump hopes will discredit the Mueller investigation, according to two American officials with knowledge of the call.

The White House restricted access to the call’s transcript to a small group of the president’s aides, one of the officials said, an unusual decision that is similar to the handling of a July call with the Ukrainian president that is at the heart of House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into Mr. Trump. Like that call, the discussion with Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia shows the extent to which Mr. Trump sees the attorney general as a critical partner in his goal to show that the Mueller investigation had corrupt and partisan origins, and the extent that Mr. Trump sees the Justice Department inquiry as a potential way to gain leverage over America’s closest allies.

And like the call with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, the discussion with Mr. Morrison shows the president using high-level diplomacy to advance his personal political interests.

GASP - another game of hearsay!

I do hope everyone is sitting down and up-to-date on your hypertension meds!

An American President actually speaks to another national leader regarding corruption involving the so-called 5 eyes and our so-called "intelligence community" (now there's an oxymoron if I've ever heard one) using another country to spy on our elected leaders as it's clearly illegal for our "IC" to do it themselves!"

What's next, checking on the pre-school records of Donald Trump, age 4!

I'm almost overcome with all of this pretend skullduggery!

Anyone want to join me in a quick board game of "Lie, Cheat and Steal?"

Investigating what happened in 2016 is ensuring the fair and impartial execution of United States' law. That is EXACTLY what the President is SUPPOSED to do, idiot NYT writers!

Reporters that lie should be strung up by their rhetorical toenails.

Many have also expected this because they are grasping at straws to keep their narrative going. They will have a problem with the countermeasures that will be used against them. They will expend themselves and lose. Then the whole ton of bricks shall be dropped on them.

It is more bs.

The NYT and the Democratic Media Slander Machine are working to create the narrative every conversation Trump has with a foreign leader is either treasonous or for personal gain.

I wish they wouldn’t refer to Deep State Swamp Weasels as “American officials”. That’s fake news. It knocks all the credibility out of their fake news story.

The Democrats know that the whole Russia collusion hoax is about to come crashing down.

I wished I believed that was even a possibility at this point. After over three years, I don't.

this is to shape public opinion...they think they still have that power. i gotta say though, i watched the weekend shows yesterday, and the messaging was awful. ..even Lindsay Grahamn was unsteady and looked rattled. Guiliani waving papers around and referencing all these Ukrainian names that no ones ever heard of, not too mention his annoying nervous laugh..why no one is saying that Trump has constitutional authority over this is amazing...quit going on about whos a hero and treason ..wish hed hire Joe De Genovia to handle his media on impeachment. He knows his stuff and is forceful.

Ah, now we see what this is really about.

They are trying to make the investigation into the FISA abuse illegal.

Completely legal and normal, in fact part if the Executive branch duty.

The Democrat’s strategy is to present anything Trump does as illegal and expect half or more of the populace to not know better.

Impeachment without removal from office by senate is same as premature withdrawal. It has no lasting effect.

Note the Rats need 20 senate republicans to defect. How realistic is that?

The Drudge Report has it with his screamin’ red headline, man does he carry the left’s water now. He’s as bad as the rest if not worse. The left is basically and illegal organization at this point, it’s going to get real real bad ....

Remind me, wasn't Australia with its Commissioner (AKA UK Ambassador) partly responsible for the Sting operation coordinated with the Obama administration?

So, if I was Trump, I sure would want to know more about that as well.

This is a nothing burger, but it is being served up as the latest in a series of “fake news scandals” that is encouraging those not paying attention to the details to develop TDS.

Sounds like the president is desperately trying to get somebody, anybody to investigate what happend. Yet no one is. Just like with biden, there is a smoking gun of his bragging about it. Yet no investigation.

The opposition is globalists. They are anti-nationalist, doesn’t matter what country. They are anti-American. They are the opposite of patriotic.

Yes it will. But the current state makes identification of targets much easier.
