Senate votes to block Trump border wall emergency money
The Washington Times ^ | 25 Sep 2019 | Stephen Dinan

Senators voted Wednesday to rebuke President Trump and cancel his border emergency, saying he overstepped his powers in grabbing $3.6 billion Congress approved for military construction projects and instead spending it on his campaign promise to build a border wall.

The 54-41 vote is unlikely to stop the president, though. While the measure is likely to pass the House, a veto is expected — and Wednesday’s tally showed there are more than enough Republicans ready to sustain Mr. Trump...

The vote was a do-over. Congress held a similar vote in March, after Mr. Trump, furious that Congress approved only $1.375 billion in its 2019 spending bills for wall construction, declared a border emergency and said he would siphon nearly $7 billion from other accounts to use for the wall.

Both the House and Senate voted to overturn the emergency, but Mr. Trump issued a veto and it was sustained

I wonder how the "Unanimous BOHICA" "Fairness for high-skilled immigrants Act" is coming along. This F job is coming soon.

Give me one good reason why workers in this country should vote GOP?

I remember when we were all ticked off that Toomey got rolled in an election. What a jerk, a clone of Arlem Specter.

“So, in reality, what we have here is opposition to the MAGA agenda by the open borders GOP. “

Pretty much the Chamber of Commerce is now collecting on their campaign donations.

And people are sure the senate wont convict?

I’m sure. The GOP plan is to leave POTUS bare behind to a beltway hurricane impeachment trial for months on end in the run up to November 2020. The GOP want Trump to lose but don’t want their finger prints on a Trump loss lest the unwashed GOP base masses back on Main Street start to notice how much the GOPe hate POTUS and love the progressive agenda.

McConnell didn’t vote for it, but one has to wonder why he would let it cone up for a vote at all. I can see arguments both ways.

Since they don’t live in a border state, they have no clue as to what really goes on.

Do you realize that a strong Conservative can only win a seat in a strongly conservative State?

Even a half ass Conservative Senator is better than a Democrat.

"Bush League Republicans MUST become extinct before the Republic does."

TBH, that gang have a group of replacements in the wings.

The feckless GOP will never be the voice of conservatism ever again, if they ever really were. They talk but they hardly ever walk the talk.

They should, because illegal alien children are having a massive impact on education across the nation.

It’s no longer simply a border state issue.

The second largest massive public works behind Boston’s “Big Dig”, was the Los Angeles school system’s school building program. We couldn’t build them fast enough to house all the illegal alien children.

I know of tree half a billion dollar high school edifices, that are almost exclusively for the use of illegal immigrant kids, and that’s just scratching the surface.
