UK Supreme Court Rules Proroguation of Parliament 'Unlawful'

Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament was unlawful, the Supreme Court has ruled.

Mr Johnson suspended - or prorogued - Parliament for five weeks earlier this month, saying it was to allow a Queen's Speech to outline his new policies.

But the court said it was wrong to stop Parliament carrying out its duties in the run-up to the Brexit deadline on 31 October.

Downing Street said it was "currently processing the verdict".

Thanks for your informative post. It’s a good counter to some of the crazy, nutter postings of a couple weeks ago about this topic.

both sides have protested

and

Apologies for the size of the pictures - I adjusted them to be the same size - I have no information on the relative size of various protests but I'm guessing it is about half and half, somewhat like the referendum itself

People are protesting because the only guarantee is that whatever the result, at least half of the population will be unhappy.

This one utter pigs breakfast

>>I’m not sure what the “screw the people” block hope to gain here.
***********************************************************
They hope to gain a reversal of a referendum. They remind me of the commie pukes we see in our country today. They had a referendum, politicians promised to honor the results. When the globals lost, they try to muddy the waters with all kinds of B.S. arguments and tactics: “They didn’t know what they were voting for”, “They didn’t vote for no-deal”, “what about the backstop (a Juncker-contrived diversion), “but there are so many who want to remain”, creating all kinds of diversions, delays, etc.

The fact that they keep fighting, and refuse to give “Losers consent” bodes ill for Brits as well as for us, if it continues to be tolerated. Loser consent is needed for the proper functioning of government.

If the subjects truly want their freedom, they are going to have to do far more than what I believe they will actually do. Interesting times ahead, no doubt.

BTW, there is at least one EU-loving globalist FR poster who posts using the tactics described above. I put him on my own virtual “ignore” button, so as to avoid being exposed to said tactics.

Instead, seek out the Brexit Party rallies on Youtube, where numerous, excellent, clear-thinking people speak at length about what is going on. God Bless Nigel Farage, Ann Widdecombe, and so many other courageous Brits who are standing up to the global power infrastructure of their country, and ready to “change politics for good”.

I find Jeff Taylor on u tube is very informative regarding Brexit. He mentioned yesterday if the Supreme Court did in fact make this judgement they should be put up for election for their post like every other politician if they feel inclined to stick their noses into politics.

I don’t think anyone can outline a path forward. I was earlier saying that 95% certainty we’d have hard no deal brexit on October 31. I’m no longer sure of that or indeed of any option regarding Brexit - literally anything seems possible again.

This is one incredible soap opera, you gotta admit!

I would suggest waiting until October 17-18, there will be a lot more clarity then

That would be horrible - I was betting currency-wise on a no-deal Brexit.

Not so funny

It looked like an easy way for the first week of November for a dip. The pound would recovery after that, no doubt (people always oversell).

Here's hoping they stick to the no deal

The judgement was against the Prime Minister's advice to the Queen, not the prorogation itself (although that necessarily falls if the advice is deemed illegal). The question of justiciability is dealt with in the summary judgement:

Supreme Court judgement

This is worth reading in full. It's not long.

I didn’t even know the UK had a supreme court.

It replace the Appelate Committee of the House of Lords (commonly known just as 'the House of Lords', but quite distinct from the upper legislative chamber) as the final court of appeal in 2009. This was one of Blair's constitutional reforms. Other considerations aside, it ends the ambiguity of the 'House of Lords' title

QE gave consent to the suspension of Parliament.

Is this Supreme Court asserting its power over the Queen?

Irrelevant. The EU has said no more delays. Parliment can pass whatever it wants, if the EU won’t budge,

It’s all theater. As long as the remoaners are doing the bidding of the EU they have no reason to budge. The moment it is advantageous they will. Bottom line is Berlin will never allow GB to leave the EU.

IF there is another referendum on Brexit, I am confident that the remainers will win.
