Nigel Farage blasted Brussels chief Guy Verhofstadt, for his apparent calls for a “European empire”, telling it straight that the EU is “building an empire”.
The Brexit Party leader took to his LBC show after comments by Guy Verhofstadt about a “European empire”.
Mr. Farage said: “Andrew Adonis, who of course I’ve spoken to you many times before here at LBC, is really one of the fanatics for ‘Remain’. Even Adonis said, ‘I don’t believe in a European Empire but a free European Union; the world has had enough of empires’. Well, hear-hear to that, Lord Adonis, but that is where they’re going. That is what they want because Barroso, one of the previous bosses of the European Commission, he said, ‘we’re building the first-ever non-militaristic empire’. They’re building an empire. Another analogy is the German New Order the Nazis planned to institute. I’m not sure how the German dominated EU differs from that plan.

Mrs. L and I have a rule of thing for international travel. Only go places settled by the British or the Dutch. Avoid anywhere settled by the French or the Spanish.
Africa is completely out. No country has been able to civilize a square foot of it.
There are exceptions, of course. But this has served us well.

Pretty much the same thing - in 1876 the British Empire in India was settling into it’s failure mode - it failed to give Dominion status and was setting the stage for Jallianwalla Bagh.
The British empire was on average good, but not an unmitigated good. They set up the strains that caused a lot of Africa to go red (or rather pinkish) and their 1756 defeat of the Marathas stopped the rollback of Islam.
In comparison to the French leaving THEIR colonies, the British were great, but they were not such an unmitigated good that it would be better if their Empire returned
