Pretty much the same thing - in 1876 the British Empire in India was settling into it’s failure mode - it failed to give Dominion status and was setting the stage for Jallianwalla Bagh.

The British empire was on average good, but not an unmitigated good. They set up the strains that caused a lot of Africa to go red (or rather pinkish) and their 1756 defeat of the Marathas stopped the rollback of Islam.

In comparison to the French leaving THEIR colonies, the British were great, but they were not such an unmitigated good that it would be better if their Empire returned
