The US has assessed that the attack on Saudi oil facilities originated inside Iran
CNN ^ | 16 Sep 2019 | Kylie Atwood and Ryan Browne

Posted on 09/16/2019 12:17:22 PM PDT by BeauBo

The US has told at least one US ally in the Middle East, that they have intelligence showing that the launch was “likely” coming from staging grounds in Iran, but they have not shared that intelligence yet. “It is one thing to tell us, it is another thing to show us,” said a diplomat from the region.

A US official separately tells CNN that the US has assessed that the attack originated from inside Iran. The official spoke on condition of anonymity.

No public evidence has been shared.

What countries in the region decide to do, in reaction to the Saudi oil field attack, largely depends on what the US is willing to do, the source said. CNN reported earlier that Secretary of State is expected to speak with the UAE Crown Prince on Monday and other nations.

The Pentagon declined to comment. The State Department and the White House did not respond to a request for comment.

The WSJ first reported that the US was telling countries region that the attacks were launched inside Iran.

“There is simply no way Iran could launch a score of cruise missiles at the Saudis undetected.”

Lets use Occam’s razor, and cut out what cannot be.

It is farther from Yemen than Houthis have reached. It is far from Iraq, and the US still effectively runs the airspace there.

It is close to the Gulf, Bahrain and Qatar.

It may have been a complex attack - a mix of different weapons (cruise missiles, drones).

Maybe they launched surreptitiously, from commercial ships, or had smuggled weapons into Saudi Arabia somehow?

I kind of hope that the Saudis pull together a coalition of nations to up the sanctions on Iran. Iran did a move at the most recent G7 summit to try to get the EU to break the US economic sanctions.

Now would be the perfect time for the Saudis to get the EU to impose the US economic sanctions against Iran. Then after they do that, get a military coalition to destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities for all time. I would hope that as important as oil is to China, India, Japan, and the EU that they could get volunteer military assistance from those countries.

Personally, I don’t think Trump wants to be in the total lead in attacking Iran militarily, unless they directly attack US military bases, ships, etc. It is long past time for someone to kick Iran to the curb.

I'll bet nobody does. But they're willing to pretend they do whenever that "Deep State" intelligence says something they want to hear.

Just like Tonkin Gulf, the attacks were probable but uncertain:

Folks want war. They want President Trump to go to war and get dragged into something that they know will hurt him in 2020.

It would be the ultimate irony if we take military action against Iran just after John Bolton leaves his post. LIKES!

For the record, I don't really doubt that Iran is behind this

Then, no damn good reason we shouldn't be doing something about it. Higher energy costs could wreck the US and world economy and we shouldn't tolerate it.

I sent this graphic to a bunch of friends on Election Night in 2016. It would be wise for all of us to sit down and reflect on it during times like this:

I don’t know. Cruise missiles are difficult to detect.

My suspicion is whoever was the attacker had agents on the ground west of the GOSP.

Doesn’t take much to puncture and burn off a pressurized NG tank. That is why there was no oil spill.

It certainly was within range of the Iranian cruise missiles.

Khurais puzzles me. There is a possibility the missiles were smuggled up from the empty quarter. The Yemen boarder is highly porous.

Another consideration is tribal loyalties are greater than country.

Saudis were attacked by their enemies. It’s Saudis’ problem. They have more than enough of everything: weapons, ammo, ordinance, resources, money, hw, and launching platforms. Let them show what they’re capable of.

Higher energy costs could wreck the US and world economy and we shouldn't tolerate it.

We have Federal judges issuing injunctions to stop new pipeline projects right here in the U.S.

Waging war in some Islamic dump as a measure to control energy costs while this sh!t goes on here at home is pathetic and outrageous.

Frankly, if that's the way we conduct ourselves in this world then we really are "The Great Satan" and we deserve whatever we have coming to us.

“There is simply no way Iran could launch a score of cruise missiles at the Saudis undetected.”

Another possibility is that they were detected, but just not successfully stopped.

The Saudi’s are capable of a lot less now that they lost an entire generation of men under a black flag.
