On Thursday morning, Republican Senator Ted Cruz attended a breakfast gathering for the Christian Science Monitor where he warned, the Texas could absolutely be in play in 2020 now there’s a couple of quotes from Ted Cruz at that breakfast meeting that I want to read, and again, I have to go ahead and admit wholeheartedly I agree with most of what Ted Cruz says here and here it is.

I think the Texas election in 2018 is powerful foreshadowing for what to expect across the country in 2020 that is correct. The Democrats in Texas increased their turnout in more than 100% the far left has pissed off. They hate the president, and that is a powerful motivator. If the left shows up in massive numbers and everybody else doesn’t, that’s how we end up with an incredibly damaging election for the Republican party damaging election, and again, you’re right about that, but you’re wrong about it. Just being that we’re pissed off at the president. You see, that’s the thing I don’t think a lot of people grasp right now.

[cut]

Cruz continued. If we lose Texas, it’s game over.

“What exactly was Ted Cruz doing when the homosexual Texas case went to the Supremes that made same sex marriage the law of the land? He never uttered a ‘Christian’ word on that matter.”

How can you make such accusations without any factual basis? Are you working toward getting a job at CNN?

https://www.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/senate-bill/02024

When the Supreme Court created “gay marriage” Cruz immediately sponsored legislation to protect citizens and states rights. He publicly opposed “gay marriage” and warned where it as been tried it led to the infringement of religious liberty.

The “Texas case” was one that the state of Texas fought all the way to the liberal Supreme Court and lost, and it was not about “homosexual marriage” but the one that led to the Supreme Court disallowing states from laws against homosexual sex.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_v._Texas

Cruz was not a politician at this time, though he worked for the Texas government in a legal capacity then (2003 and prior). He was not even serving in these capacities when Lawrence v. Texas began in 1998.

Texas amended its state constitution to prevent “homosexual marriages” from other states from being recognized here. The Supreme Court ruling that legalized so-called homosexual marriages basically invalidated all such state constitutional provisions. Cruz has always stood for states being able to do this.

This is a forum to share information and get informed. Spreading false information and failing to do basic homework before posting is unhelpful.

When exactly did the career government employee, Ted Cruz serve as solicitor general. Con men are a dime a dozen. But none ever con the Heavenly Father. I remember the attempted reenactment of ‘Gideon’ in the South Carolina primary.. problem was those 300 preachers for hire neglected to read what instrument gave Gideon the victory. You must go through whitewash by the barrel.

It wasn’t just the Democrats who gave away our country. The GOP donor class saw imported cheap labor, legal or illegal, as an endless path for profits and growth.

The problem is that we imported people, not “labor units”. Those people, and their children, turned out to prefer socialism over liberty.

It won’t happen - but even so, Trump was on the brink of winning VA and MN. If he holds all other states and picks up either on of those, or the equivalent electoral votes from other nealry won states, then he doesn’t need Texas.

It’s fine with me if the new electoral dividing line becomes states more invaded (NY, CA, TX, etc) vs. States less invaded, so long as the latter wins and we continue to fight and win a war against this invasion.

In 2016 the left said if Trump loses Florida, he can’t win, which turned out to be false.

So I guess in 2020 they’ll be saying this about Texas, and either way I think that will also turn out to be false.

Speaking of VA, I think it is very winnable in 2016.

Below is how the map looked in 2016. Obviously the DC suburbs carried the day and wiped out all the Trump gains elsewhere. But that does not necessarily repeat in 2020. Remember that a lot of Beltway government drones genuinely feared a Trump presidency as they saw a President Trump wiping out federal agencies left and right. So they were voting to protect their livelihoods.

Regrettably, Trump did not cut federal agencies nearly as much as I expected he would. That's bad for me but might be good for Trump's prospects to bring VA into the GOP column as the federal bureaucrats are not fearing their job security quite so much anymore.

As for MN, I think Trump takes that. An incredible turnaround in fortune as most Republicans had that state written off for the next 100 years.

Well roughly 31% of the federal government are veterans. I know some veterans are liberal. However I think the biggest issue for Feds was the “unknown factor” regarding Trump. Here was this “loud mouth game show host running for President how can we treat it seriously?”! So the “unknown factor” is now “known” and its not as scary or as bad as they imagined.

So I think you hypothesis regarding the “winnability” of Virginia is worth considering.

“When exactly did the career government employee, Ted Cruz serve as solicitor general.”

Internet search is easy.

And there are people other than President Trump who have made sacrifices to be public servants. Cruz could easily make as much or more as an attorney as he has as a senator. Without people like Cruz what we would be left with is Democrat politicians who enrich themselves through government positions, or Democrats in Republican clothing like Mitt Romney. Cruz has a lifelong track record of principled conservatism. That used to mean something on a conservative forum when conservatives gathered here to exchange knowledge and other support.

“You must go through whitewash by the barrel.”

It is very odd how certain members on this forum obsess over Ted Cruz when the extreme left hates him even more than Donald Trump.

Even Hillary Clinton said Ted Cruz was worse than Trump.

Planned Parenthood hates Cruz more than Trump.

GOPe railed against Cruz from before Trump even announced his candidacy.

You are holding up religious standards that no one, including our great president, can measure up to.

Cruz has his faults, but it is ridiculous for anyone on a conservative forum to focus time and energy attacking him when he is better than 90-95% of our politicians. And if he gets replaced it is highly likely we will have someone who is less principled, less conservative, and less supportive of the president’s agenda.

Further, not one single Cruz hater on this forum has ever put forward a suggestion of who could do the job better. I suggest that if you or anyone here can be such a candidate, then run. Show us how it is done. No conservative candidates would even think about running against Cruz for the exact reasons I’ve given. There are many senate seats that need to be targeted long before thinking about who could do a better job than Cruz. Anyone here who disagrees is politically naive, tone deaf, ignorant, or the enemy of conservatism just trolling real conservatives on this forum.

Which are you?

You’ve already had one post on this thread deleted for name calling, yet you insist on doing it again.

And you cannot speak for everyone else on the forum as to what they want to listen to.

I think the biggest threat against Trump is absolutely without question Google and election fraud. The Treasonists are going to pull out all the stops this election and absolutely nothing is being done about it. How much more evidence do Republicans require? We got Google employees multiple times on video saying they are going to rig the election, we have the democrats last election working with Russia to spy on Trump of which NOBODY involved has yet been charged, it’s utterly outrageous the do nothing attitude going on today when it comes to this crap.

An important aspect of the Beto fight was that although he did not win, a lot of lower level seats moved to the Democrat side. This should have an influence on the next election. Also any info on the relative number of Californians versus Louisianans who moved to Texas and how that would influence the voting pattern?

How much of Rust Belt workers migration to southern states is because of “right to work” laws. Meaning that businesses relocate in the south because they no longer have to contend with unions demanding better pay for their workers who in non right to work states have to support the union whether they like it or not to get this better pay that drives the bosses south.

The migration to TX, GA, FL, NC, TN is obviously the result of jobs there and no jobs in Rust Belt Cities.

Right-to-work laws are only a small part of the picture. Lower taxes, less regulation are significant. Back in the 60s I did sociological studies of the movement of employers and manufacturing from the city of Chicago, especially the factory belt along the west and northwest railroad lines, to the suburbs, especially Elk Grove Village.

By far, the #1 reason for flight was to avoid harrassment by inspectors/regulators. There were dozens of other reasons. But they all paled in comparison to excessive harrassment by regulators.

In recent years I have not done the same type of thorough study, nor have I seen such a study from others. But I suspect harrassment of employers is much higher than anything else.

Here in Atlanta wages are about the same as in Chicago. In my IT they are about the same. In construction labor (new apartment buildings) they are about the same. In food service they are about the same.

My opinion was formed on Cruz at the New Hampshire debate, by his own mouth. His response to his own eligibility, demonstrated his will to be somebody, was not going to constrained by the original intent of the founding fathers.. conservatism means personal accountability. That is the essence of what it means to be a follower of Christ.

It is rather odd how quickly some become reduced to accusing ‘hate’ when they want to bully others into shutting-up. When I hear/read that word ‘hate’, I am reminded of what was Written that God says He ‘hates’. That is my standard.

Bingo, all Republicans should demand that Cornyn step down, he is by far one of the worst creatures of the swamp.
