Beto O’Rourke has easily emerged as my favorite presidential candidate on the issue of gun control.
He has done so because he is speaking openly, passionately and honestly about what he would like to do to stem our epidemic of gun violence, a stance that is surprisingly rare.
I long ago tired of hearing politicians who are supposed to be in favor of smarter gun laws and reducing American gun deaths and injuries pull their punches so as not to upset the gun lobby and gun lobbyists.
Among other things, O’Rourke’s gun safety plan includes declaring gun violence a public health emergency, creating a national gun licensing system and registry, requiring universal background checks, implementing red flag laws and banning “the manufacturing, sale and possession of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”
Other candidates agree with some of these proposals, and have additional ones, but I like the full-throated way O’Rourke responds to being challenged on this front.

Guns get in their way.
There is not a politician in Washington, R or D, who would not be happy to see every American dis-armed.
Hopefully he slips on his skateboard and breaks his neck.
Ever notice that they don’t want to limit government employees, and even retired government employees.

The more people like him say things like this - the more, not less, the market for weapons to defend ourselves against him and others who think like him, increase.

True, but I think a lot of that comes from their delusion that every government employee will follow, lock step, with their commands, orders, wishes, wants, whims and desires. Unfortunately, there are many reasons for them to think that, as we see police enforcing their Red Flag laws. What happens when the cops say, NO?
The gun grabbers didn’t do sh!t about Obama and Eric Holder running guns to Mexican narcoterrorists, forcing gun dealers to approve sales that should’ve been declined “so they could track the arms”.
Thousands of people were killed including Americans.
The issue is never the issue. This is about control, not guns.
All guns are weapons of war. Once we allow the Left to define the terms of the debate we lose.
Leftists like Charles Blows want to disarm us, then kill us. Leftists have genocide on their minds.
Plan accordingly.
Blow thinks the.military and police will just come and take our guns. What they will get is war.
The left are the very last people on earth who need to be demanding anyone be honest about gun control, seeing how they’ve been lying about the issue consistently since I’ve been living.
Blow is an American enemy who must be silenced for the good of the country
He abuses his right to free speech and forfeits his right to speak or write publicly

Let’s be realistic - we know background checks and such only hurt those that won’t be shooting up crowds anyways. Criminals will get guns no matter what the laws say. After all, they’re criminals.
There is only one way to stop gun violence - getting rid of all guns. Even from the legal folks. Confiscation is the only thing that will work. After all, criminals aren’t lobbing nuclear bombs at each other.
Of course, getting rid of all guns has that nice little side effect of disarming a public that might stop an evil government. Which, alas, is one of the main reasons for the second amendment in the first place.
The mil and federal leo most likely will follow orders.
It’s what state and local does that’s less certain.
