Save us from the pointless burdens of the TSA
NY Post ^ | 9 Sep 2019 | Karol Markowicz

The people shuffle along, shoeless, ready for their full-body check. Their belongings have been taken from them. If they question any part of this, in any way, they are quickly removed and taken to an undisclosed location.

No, it’s not prison — it’s the security check at your local airport. Why do we stand for it?

The Transportation Security Administration was established in the wake of 9/11, when Congress passed the Aviation and Transportation Security Act. Before that, private security agencies hired by the airlines handled security at the airports.

After the attacks, people demanded the government “do something” — and “something” is exactly what it did: It took over the role of airport security and bloated it to its current size, with more than 50,000 employees and a budget of more than $7 billion.

It’s now fully 18 years after 9/11. Perhaps it’s time to rethink our airport-security system and realize that what we implemented in our most fearful moments no longer serves us well.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating

There have been no hijackings with the tSA on the job.

The author woke up and was clueless about what to write so he ground out some sentences critical of the TSA

“Why do we stand for it?”

It’s what sheeple do.

Everyone should quit flying and let the airlines and filthy government figure it out.

Force Congress, Senators and lobbyists to go thru this and it will stop tomorrow.
Brought to you by GWB who him and his staff never had to use it.

That’s my single argument too. We were naive before 9/11, we didn’t understand the threat.

It would never happen today, the PASSENGERS are the real security.

I tend to have an attitude going through airport security. The machine is going to tell them my groin has something to check. They aren’t friendly, don’t consider you a customer, and never say please.

I even had one that told me it was “my job” to stack empty bins, that weren’t mine, on the exit side of the security check. I informed him I’ve been ROBBED in a TSA security line, money in my bin went missing, and that my only job was to make sure I had all my belongings. The guy just starred at me...had an obvious power trip going on.

Pic has to be photo-shopped; or posed by a P.R. firm.

1 Area is entirely too well lit
2 Only 6 obvious persons of color. (4 are employees)
3 ALL employees are working
4 Nobody is in sweat pants or pajamas.
5 All lanes are open

It was an immigrant from Iraq that tried to sabotage the plane the other day, because “he wanted to get overtime”.

That’s why they made TSA a union job.

Hell, even singer Richard Marx smacked-down a bad actor on a plane, and he’s like five-foot six.

I went thru the California idiotic DL snafu. My advice to you.... get a passport instead. Passports are easier to get than those stupid drivers licenses.

There still is a risk from smuggled guns and bombs that can depressurize a jet airplane.

There still isn’t any security on the AM airband. Other than good weather and visual conditions, what stops anyone with a handheld from directing a Cessna (especially with an inexperienced student) into a Heavy on approach other than having to know the correct jargon?

“Force Congress, Senators and lobbyists to go thru this and it will stop tomorrow.”

Process improvements are possible, and would happen quickly if all were treated equally.

“And they treat us normal travelers feel like criminals!”

How does the looks of a normal traveler vary from those of a terrorist? If we didn’t have terrorists who try to smuggle things on a plane like we had a 911, we wouldn’t need anyone to check on us except for the comfort of the other passengers. Get rid of the terrorists, and all that’s left are the idiots. Best way to take care of them is not to let them on a plane with items that can do harm to other people and make them buy a ticket of higher price for a second aircraft due to the inconvenience they cause.

Then you won’t see therapy animals like horses, ducks and geese on a leash, turkeys, a blow up doll (female), kangaroo, a bearded dragon, a pig, a marmoset, snakes (Delta stopped theirs), a peacock, a chicken, a squirrel, a goat...there are more. But you get the idea, I’m sure. We have enough problems without bomb vests, shoe bombs, and hidden weapons even if they are not gong to use them. Oh, every one of those animals I posted has been on a plane as a help animal. And some others were not allowed on. But I think the one that takes the cake is the guy who tried to bring a full sized leaf blower on board. It’s just people, some dishonest, some stupid.

If you pay them for TSA Pre-Check/Global Entry and dress like a business traveler 95% of this stuff goes away - proving it is totally unnecessary.

They should have just added a $25 per flight "passenger surcharge" and told everybody it was for enhanced screening equipment - the Chertoffs of the world could have extracted even more cash with less public complaint.

Yes, a mere visit to KC Chiefs Arrowhead stadium (KC Royals not so bad, so I guess terrorists are less interested in attacking baseball fans than football fans) while someone goes through my bag, while I am being patted down.

As if that weren’t bad enough, I now get the same treatment at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts to use my KC Symphony season tickets, choose to go to the ballet or the opera or any entertainment venue there, go visit the Zoo, the art gallery, the museum or other paying event!

I’m expecting very soon to be “greeted” with similar treatment to go out to my favorite restaurant or shopping trip, as those are almost the only areas left in my life that “security” scams haven’t been subjected to!
