A couple in Pennsylvania is facing theft charges and over $100,000 in overdraft fees after allegedly using money that was accidentally deposited into their bank account, WITN reports.
State police said the couple living at a home on Cypress Street in Montoursville got themselves into hot water after spending money that wasn't theirs.
Investigators said Robert and Tiffany Williams had $120,000 deposited into their account at BB&T May 31 through a mistake by a teller. But instead of contacting the bank about the deposit, the couple allegedly spent most of the money in just over two weeks from June 3 to June 19.

This fits in with the “entitlement” mentality so many people have these days: “Hey! I don’t care if it was an error. It’s my account, so the money should be mine to keep!”
So your conscience allows you to steal other peoples money???
The IRS will actually prosecute someone who spends or cashes funds issued in error.
It aint your money. The bank made a mistake. Since when does a moral person say this isnt mine Im going to spend it anyway
You and a couple of others sound like democrats
it is theft

Yes they did steal it. Its not their money. It doesnt belong to the bank. The money belongs to another individual
You slackers sound like democrats
No
That is not a conservative principle
A skilled attorney might cost $100,000, and there is still a risk of losing.
Open up a safe deposit box at a different bank temporarily put it there. and say you werent sure because you Father/Son/cousin often gives you sums of money and figured that was where it came from. but can pay them back $20 a month.
No duh. It was a joke.
It is fraud. And is taking something that isnt yours
If a multi-billionaire puts money in your pocket and you spend it, it is not theft. The multi-billionaire is wrong to run you through the court system.
Theft is defined as the physical removal of an object that is capable of being stolen without the consent of the owner and with the intention of depriving the owner of it permanenly...
So actually it is theft. The money doesnt belong to the bank but to the person who deposited it
Not the same
Theft is defined as the physical removal of an object that is capable of being stolen without the consent of the owner and with the intention of depriving the owner of it permanenrly
The money does not belong to them. They knew it didnt. Theft by taking
Plus the fact it is not a conservative principle to screw the other guy
Uh, nine-tenths of the law ain’t the whole law.
A person who possession something for which he is not the lawful owner holds better right to it than all the world . . . EXCEPT for the true owner.
Go away, troll.
Then, rather than be thankful that the serious charges went away, his attorney will say it is the Police Dept fault for taking him seriously when it was obvious it was a lie from the beginning, so he shouldnt have to pay.
This is effectively what happened in Chicago between Jussie, the prosecutors department, and the Chicago police.
By the way Ive watched tv shows where local PD leaves a car unlocked with keys in it. When a thief decides to start the car and drive off the doors get locked and the engine is killed. Perp is arrested for grand theft auto
It aint yours. Dont take it or use it
