A high school in North Carolina is under fire for an assignment entitled "Diversity Inventory" that left students crying and parents outraged. Heritage High School English teacher Melissa Wilson gave out an assignment to her class last week that asked them to categorize themselves, their parents, their doctor, friends, and more by race, class, sexuality, and religion, among other things.
Students reported that Wilson made them go stand by a sign on the wall that correlated with their sexuality. One student called a parent during the exercise to express her discomfort with it. Another student broke down crying. North Carolina Values Coalition reports.
Students were also asked to stand up, and walk towards posters in different areas of the room that correlated with their sexual identities. Students were traumatized. Some were even brought to tears. At this morning's meeting, one parent said that her student had been experiencing PTSD from the incident. Another student didn't attend school on Friday, and is so scared to return to Wilson's classroom environment that they told their parent they hoped the hurricane would distract everyone from this incident. Another parent's child Facetimed them in the middle of the classroom to tell them how uncomfortable they were with the assignment. Another student had a friend who had recently shared very private information about themselves to a select number of their peers, and went white when the teacher asked students to now stand and reveal their private identities.

Ok a bit of hyperbole on my part but it does seem even if its not true that dims can get away with almost anything and our people get crushed all too often.
You vill tell us everything young comrades..
I would have hung up a sign that said Nun ya for all kids identifying as Nun ya bidness.
Yes, what does this have to do with teaching English?
The students are left without the ability to parse/diagram sentences (think clearly), but can rat out one anothers’ proclivities.
Next stop: shaming heterosexuals as close-minded? Reminds me of high school late 60’s when English teachers convinced us to go on strike against the Administration for not allowing students to wear jeans to school. Result: Administration folded and the LSD promoting hippy English teachers won.
North Carolina was once a bastion of common sense.....
Where is the outrage from the so-called “good” teachers that everyone seems to know?
The list was hugh 25ish years ago when we decided to homeschool our 8 kids.
And stuff like this was nowhere near our radar either.
I am staggered at how bad things have gotten in such a short time.
Here is a quote from those pushing this curriculum on English teachers:
“...Equity work is not a one-off professional development training or an office that works in isolation. This work requires embedded and systemic shifts...”
What is “equity work”? What kind of action-packed work is “embedding” and “systemic shifting”?
Modern textbooks are filled with these non-grammatical, illogical nouns and verbs. Students have to guess at the meaning in order to pass tests. Reminds me of Dick and Jane: Look, say, guess the word. Here it’s guess the concept.
Muslims understand the value of controlling the schools. This is why there is no Muslim country where liberals control the schools and why they are fighting back so hard against this stuff in the British schools where their children make up a significant number of students.
Western conservatives, on the other hand and for reasons not clearly known, allowed liberals to take over the school system so thoroughly that teaching today is regarded as a wholly liberal profession.
Home schooling isn't the answer. We need to regain control of public schools and set the agenda. At the very least, force liberals to the table.
I think that can begin by controlling the local school boards.
This is an "educate your neighbor issue".
The purpose of the local board is to represent the taxpayers. That is why they exist.
Most people don't know that and will vote for educators in those positions. That is voting for the fox to guard the henhouse.
What does this assignment have to do with English? Public schools need to be shut down!
This woman needs to be required to submit daily lesson plans that she will follow to teach ENGLISH to her students. A camera needs to be installed in her classroom with the understanding that if she does not follow her approved lesson plans to the letter she will be fired immediately. She cannot be trusted. Perhaps she is incapable of teaching the English class.
And Satan laughed and clapped his hands all the way home.
This is beyond disgusting. I feel so bad for the kids and their parents.
Thanks for the ping metmom.
So these parents have not taught their children not to participate in invasive programming at their schools.
First thing I taught my kids when they used the public or private system
No she needs to be fired, poor judgment.
My high school English teacher gave one of these when I was in high school. But her test was about whether we were having sex. We lied through our teeth. I thought I was being outlandish by saying I had two girl friends and we were "exploring ourselves." Another classmate, a female, wrote down that she was having drug fueled orgies while listening to the Grateful Dead being playing backwards.
Later the teacher told us that she knew was making a difference in our lives because our "creative writing abilities."
We were still comparing answers at our 40th school reunion.
No, Grampa Dave is exactly right. It is denial to pretend that government schools, all of which are predicated on the Prussian model of creating good little state servants, and all of which have specifically excluded Christianity for decades, are anything but a socialist pagan cesspool.
If government-run health care is wrong, why are government-raised children OK??
Government schools have **always** been liberal indoctrination centers.
Government schools are America’s first socialist entitlement.
Liberals have **always** controlled teacher training, curriculum development.
The push has **always** been toward increasing secularism.
