Kroger joins Walmart in asking shoppers not to openly carry guns in stores

Kroger on Tuesday followed Walmart in asking shoppers not to openly carry guns in any of its stores, in states where “open carry” is allowed, unless they are authorized law enforcement officers.

The announced changes come amid a wave of deadly shootings in the U.S., including two at Walmart stores this summer.

Both companies are also calling on the government to strengthen background checks.

“Kroger is respectfully asking that customers no longer openly carry firearms into our stores, other than authorized law enforcement officers,” Jessica Adelman, group vice president of corporate affairs, said in an emailed statement. “We are also joining those encouraging our elected leaders to pass laws that will strengthen background checks and remove weapons from those who have been found to pose a risk for violence.”

“if you have a Kroger Plus care”.
Doesn’t matter. You plus card does not equal the benefit card the illegals carry. In other words, your small monthly purchase does not equal the welfare cards the feds are handing out to illegals.
They decided if US citizens will not vote for socialism, they will import voters who will!! And pay them with taxpayer dollars!!

Obviously you're entitled to your own opinion.

I tend to see it as "bigbob" posted:
"Virtue signalling to liberal shareholders and analysts,
knowing full well the true carriers will not be deterred.

Let us NOT forget there are LIBERAL shareholders investing their money in Kroger stock.

Sorry Laz... Kroger is just TRYING to appease everyone.

I get that. That pi$$es you off. Then go to some other store, even though underneath it all most commercial enterprises are trying appeal to EVERYONE regardless of their politics.

Understanding that..I'll continue to be a TOLERANT Kroger customer.

"To each his own."

I would never open carry. It makes a marked target. Concealed carry is the way to go. Given all the snowflakes in society today it is going to make them nervous if they see one. If they don’t know you are concealed all the better.

When I moved to AZ from CA in the 70’s, smittys (later kroeger) had a sign at customer service, “please check your weapon”

I never open carry. I have CCW’s good in 47 states so keep it covered and practice situational awareness.

You’re right.

Walmart was the fallback for every item one couldn’t get anywhere else.

Even though they’ve always sold BLM T shirts online.

Perhaps one can’t be a complete purist.

After all, liberals round the block in Manhattan to eat Chick Fil A!

That will definitely discourage would be killers from taking their guns in there.

A crazy ass person that wants to hurt and kill people will find a way.

Guess they never heard of Billy Ferry that walked into a Winn-Dixie in Florida with a bucket of gas and tossed it on the people at the check out. 5 people died and several had severe burns.

I was a young kid watching this on tv and to this day it is right up there with the Challenger and Sunshine Skyway Bridge collapse in things that still can cause me to have nightmares.

.. try living in bentonville.

If anyone gets in walmart’s way.. they’re done.

If you’re banned from Walmart, life is very different.

I typically do not open carry but must admit to recently doing so on multiple occasions as I am upset with the snowflakes bullying on 2nd amendment. Sam Walton must be rolling in his grave to have his company now bullied by ignorant employees.

So, customers should set aside a legal right to open carry to make Kroger feel better?

How about NO.

While I just posted that I have deliberately open-carried recently, 99% of the time I conceal carry. I do not see value in making myself a target or advertising that I carry a firearm. It really is no one’s business if I am or am not carrying.

I open carry because I am a furnace. I’m hot blooded and il be damned if I m going to cover up with an extra layer in the Alabama warm season (March to November). I usually use an iwb holster so it’s not too obvious.

I disagree. I open carry for comfort. covering up means gallons of sweat pouring off of me an corroding my gun. Bling? factory glock is hardly bling. I like to defend my family and myself too but you paint all open carriers with a pretty broad brush there, my friend. Here in Bama if I go to walmart and don’t see at least 4 open carriers it’s unusual. and in some stores that’s any weekday.

scratch Kroger from my shopping list. Who is going to protect their customers from armed lunatics, their “greeters”?

At the last two WalMart shooting, outsiders, armed, took out the killers. One was an offduty police officer. Gonna ban him too because he was off-duty?

What fools we have running large companies, many right into the ground.

In Texas at least, if they want to prohibit open carry, they’ll have to post a 30.07 a sign for it. If not, screw them. I generally carry concealed, but might be willing to make an exception in their case.

Open carry is BLING, and CHILDISH. “Look at me I have a big gun.” You are far more dangerous for a bad guy if he thinks he is safe and you are cc.

I completely disagree. If most folks who carry did so openly, it would make all places safer. Personally, I prefer to carry concealed, mainly because of the type of holster I use. I don't really care if people carry open or not, but think that in the long run, if it became much more common than it is, that it would be better for us all to get used to seeing it. The bad guys will know they are outnumbered, not just suspect it.

We allowed to decline in a corporation owned store? It's their property.

Depends upon the state. If they want to enforce their policy in Texas, they have to post proper signage. That is the law.
