“We are talking to China, the meetings in September, that hasn’t changed,” Trump told reporters Sunday on the White House South Lawn after returning from Camp David.

Tariffs went into effect early Sunday on $112 billion of Chinese imports.

The 15% tariffs cover a wide range of consumer goods, including everything from certain types of clothing and shoes to some consumer electronics like cameras and desktop computers.

Yes, trying to negotiate with the slippery Chinese has failed every time before, without imposing the choke hold of tariffs to hurt their competitive position in the market. With 25% tariff, many other countries could price the Chinese out of the market.

“With 25% tariff, many other countries could price the Chinese out of the market.”

Companies are already relocating parts of their operations out of China. IMO China is desperate for a deal and is willing to make one if Trump allows them to do so without “losing face”.

I believe the President is aware of this and will not take a “victory lap” when this comes together.

Yes, let’s not make the same “bomb them back to the peace table. then stop” mistakes we have in the past. Economically bomb them back to the negotiation table and keep econ-bombing them until they make the deal. Then instantly return to econ-bombing the second they’re no longer in compliance.

Fact is the tariffs should just remain at some level, that’s the way to resolve the trade imbalance and weakening China is in our national security interest.

Keep talking. That is what matters so long as you keep turning the screws while you talk.

We had some of the greatest shoemakers and clothing makers here in the USA in the early years.

I think we may have to go back to smaller companies that will fulfill the needs of the USA.

We have been “talking” to the Yellow Bastards for 40 years and they treat us like sh*t. Talk is cheap like the crap they produce. Tariff them to oblivion..

“Companies are already relocating parts of their operations out of China.”
___________________________________________________________

I have a story to tell in that regard.

Last year, and this year, too, I was (still am) packing
boxes of videos/DVDs, heavy books, and all kinds of other items and moving them to my storage locker.

I buy a lot of clear packing tape. Last year, I bought Duck clear packing tape in WalMart. The single rolls, with less tape, were $1.00, later raised to $1.12, and now sell for $1.24.

The four pack of the Duck brand has more tape on each roll and sold for seven dollars and change, now it’s $8.84, all of pre-tariff prices.

This tape was made in China.

I decided to switch over to the much more expensive American made clear packing tape, which is thicker than the Chinese made packing tape.

I brought a number of boxes to my storage locker. When I returned a month or two later, the more expensive American made packing tape was peeling off, and hanging off, many of the boxes.

I was pissed, and went back to the Chinese made packing tape, which I placed over the sub-standard American made tape.

I purchased another four pack of the Duck brand clear packing tape several days ago, and I noticed inside each role where it used to say “Made in China” now says “Made in Malaysia.”

It looks like that manufacturer has already changed their supply source. I guess they saw the writing on the wall.

52 min, but amazing interview..!

His English stinks but his message is amazing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cwXifDaCjE

He sez...

1. Chinese Commi party has maybe 2 years at most, then bust

2. China and the people rock but the CCP is now simply a yuge, drug-dealing money-laundering op

3. Jack Ma of Alibaba will be killed or in prison within one year

4. The USA is in great danger and the CCP has a 3-point program to destroy us

Lose face? F* 'em to hell.

They're killing us with Fentanyl. Everyone in that chain should die of the very same.

Until that happens, let the chicoms choke and spew. They deserve our @ss, nothing more.

While I understand and even agree with your outrage I also believe it is more important long term to actually secure a deal.

Asians place a very high value on maintaining their “image” and will walk away from a deal they may otherwise accept if the deal is not properly presented, i.e. without threats or personal disparagement towards them.

And on 10/17/19 US officially exits the Postal Union after giving the required notice on 10/17/18

So cutting off the Chicoms from low cost postal rat3s to US.

Enjoy the suck Fentanyl suppliers.
