It looks like Mike Pence is quite the trendsetter. The US vice-president famously refuses to have dinner alone with any woman who isnt his wife and now working men across corporate America appear to be following his lead.
A new study, due to be published in the journal Organizational Dynamics, has found that, following the #MeToo movement, men are significantly more reluctant to interact with their female colleagues. A few highlights from the research include:
27% of men avoid one-on-one meetings with female co-workers. Yep, thats right, almost a third of men are terrified to be alone in a room with a woman.
21% of men said they would be reluctant to hire women for a job that would require close interaction (such as business travel).
19% of men would be reluctant to hire an attractive woman.
The data above was collected in early 2019 from workers across a wide range of industries. Researchers had asked the same questions (albeit to different people and with more of a focus on future expectations) in early 2018, just as #MeToo was in full swing, and depressingly, things appear to have got worse. In 2018, for example, 15% of men said they would be more reluctant to hire women for jobs that require close interpersonal interactions with women, compared to 21% in 2019.
Its not just men who are afraid of women, by the way. Women also appear to be increasingly wary of hiring women. The 2018 survey results found that more than 10% of men and women said they expected to be less willing than before to hire attractive women. (Note: the 2019 results for women are not yet public.) ...

There’s a lot to be said for being self-employed and working out of your home.
Works well for me.
The last phb-ette was enough to do whatever possible to not get another one.
Women are going to end up like females in a Muslim society; unable to go anywhere alone or be alone with a man who isn’t a close relative. I hope they wear their new fetters with pride.
This woman is way off base. Men aren’t terrified of women, nor are they anxious to be harassers without consequences. Men are rightly disgusted with the idea that innocent joking and playing around can be construed as harassment, depending on what their current level of hormones or what they think, then or much later. The men are busy and distracted enough without having to treat every interaction with a woman like a chess move. They can’t relax around women, thanks to Me too and a lot of earlier nonsense and a lot of men just don’t need that kind of tension and will avoid it if possible.
Btw, I am a woman and working in a professional, male-dominated arena. I never once had a situation where if I told the guy he was out of bounds, he didn’t listen and correct himself. It was a kind of “one-bite rule”. That has been tossed out by Me too and feminists who have surrounded men with a literal minefield of liability.
Show me any woman or girl that wants to do my job and Ill give you a dollar
Ive been in the solar business about 30 years now and Ive seen a total of one yes one girl on a crew installing solar panels are doing electrical work
That being said Mike Pence follows the same rules I do even in my personal life I never am alone with another woman because I have respect for my wife
My dear friend just got a divorce from her psychiatrist husband who retired, then went to work three days a week in a different part of the state, got lots of phone calls from a woman and emails, which she read. He claims she was a colleague. Perhaps she was, but who knows?. My friend will end up with about half a mil from divorce.
Mike Pence was made fun of relentlessly for saying he wouldn’t have dinner alone with a woman not his wife.
Women who are attractive and capable are now getting the shaft because of this.
And, NEVER touch!!
I would take precautions as well, in this era, you can’t be too careful.
You left out the pound sign (#). The correct name for the movement is “Pound Me Too.”
I no longer speak to female co-workers unless it’s a work necessity. But that is the way it is from now on..................
Can’t be because men harbor fear of false accusation, because that’s never, ever happened.
It must be because men want to punish women and keep them down.
It’s the only logical and reasonable explanation.
I’m four months away from retirement as a contractor in IT. i.e. I could simply find another contract and, heaven forbid, I can’t, I’m still good.
It means I can joke around with them all I want, and do. In fact, sometimes I have to remind THEM that I have HR on speed dial. :D
Those of us over 40 (both sexes) actually joke about “warning” each other that we have HR on speed dial. We think the whole thing is absurd. But then, we’re from a different era and like joking around with each other and have nothing to hide.
That being said, there still are women in my age group that you DON’T joke around with. We all know who they are. :)
But life’s too short to worry about this nonsense.
I hope they wear their new burkas with pride................
Even that isn't safe anymore.
It looks like Mike Pence is quite the trendsetter.
Here in Kentucky, the water cooler talk is always sports, especially the local college teams. We talked more about weather when I lived in Florida. And more about bad traffic, too.
At a former employer, a woman used the ‘sexual harassment’ ploy to climb the corporate ladder. Until she used it on the wrong man.......................
"Terrified"? Uh-huh...
Project much? Leftism. It's a mental disease...
