President Donald Trump announced Thursday the official establishment of the US military's Space Command.
"Those who wish to harm the United States, to seek to challenge us on the ultimate high ground of space, it's going to be a whole different ballgame," Trump said at a White House ceremony marking the command's establishment.
Space Command will become the 11th combatant command, joining the ranks of US Central Command, which oversees operations in the Middle East, and US Special Operations Command, which oversees Special Operations Forces.

For some odd reason I can hear the theme to Star Trek =)
Space Command makes sense, establishing a separate service like the USAF, the Marines, or the Army was not. A separate service would have created uniform combatants who never fight, never spent a night without air conditioning, and never without cable TV and a nearby bar. The resulting badges and awards would make them the laughing stock of everyone else who goes in harms way.
Make Space Great Again!
AOC signing up for Space Cadet.
Really shoulda called it star command and have space rangers... like buzz lightyear! :)
I always wanted to join the Mobile Infantry.
Special Circumstance is recruiting ...
If you decide to join up, whatever you do, don't let them issue you a red shirt.
Does anyone know where this is headquartered at?
I just now read up on them. They sound like fun. Ill join them next after my hitch in MI.
Alpha Centauri 4; makes it difficult for espionage agents to get there!
I have to disagree with you. Air Force space types already generally never hear shots fired in anger or rough it in the bush.
Yet space is a secondary priority for the Air Force. In my view, we need a service devoted to organizing, training, and equipping space forces. This is serious business--and I just spent half of the week in a training class with some of our nation's nascent space warfighters.
Sure, most of the spacers aren't going to live in tents "down range"--but we need someone to keep the Chicoms and Russians from schwacking the satellites the trigger-pullers depend upon.
This analysis is laughable. You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, yet you spout off anyway.
Even though he’s not looking at Space Command, my kid graduated as an astronautical engineer two weeks before Trump announced Space Command.
Talk about great timing.
My kid is just turning 18. I told him he should join Space Force Academy so that he could be one of the first official SpaceCadets.
Make sure he changes his name to ‘Tom Corbett’.
