6.4 off Oregon Coast
Best place around to get Earthquake news and much more detail of origination, strength, aftershocks etc.
Very scientific and no talking heads interviews, this is the only place I go for real information versus conjecture.
Freep On!
284km WNW of Bandon, Oregon
Big fault lines off the Oregon coast, hopefully this isn’t a prequel to a much larger earthquake.
bkmk
The Earthquake Channel !?!?!?!?!? Who knew ?
Down to 6.3 now.
We get a lot of them out there. They say we’re overdue for the “big one.” 6.4 is bigger than most I hear about.
8/29/2019 -- Multiple M6.0 earthquakes across Pacific -- Unrest due for W. Coast USA
Pure garbage.
Nice golf course there. Not much else.
But, they just put up new tsunami signs.
Back in 1967 or 68 I was stationed at El Toro Marine Air Station, when I began going out to the Palm Desert and going mountain climbing above Palm Springs. I was up in the mountains when a 6.5 hit and you’re right they’re a pretty good Shake.
The only one I ever felt was a 4.3, or so, but I was standing on bedrock at the time. I’m in Coos Bay. I doubt we’ll get a big quake until they fill all the potholes in town.
I drove all the way up the Oregon coast to Portland after I got out of the Marine Corps. And I still believe that that was some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen and Coos Bay is just breathtaking! I’m very jealous.

Well don’t go shootin’ your mouth off about it. :)
A lot of folks move here based on a visit. The rain and generally dismal economy soon wise them up. And the ocean tries to kill the intrepid ones.
Yeah I went up there and liked it a lot, I intended
to stay there and live; however I couldn’t ever find a good job and eventually I had to leave.
The Oregon coast is above the subduction zone of the offshore plate under the North American plate. It has been hit by 8.0+ earthquakes VERY REGULARLY at 300 year intervals - as measured by sand bars found on land, sunken bays and trees, and even Japanese tsunami records of villages wiped out overseas. The last earthquake off of Oregon was in 1700: From Wikipedia,
The 1700 Cascadia earthquake occurred along the Cascadia subduction zone on January 26 with an estimated moment magnitude of 8.79.2. The megathrust earthquake involved the Juan de Fuca Plate from mid-Vancouver Island, south along the Pacific Northwest coast as far as northern California.
The length of the fault rupture was about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles), with an average slip of 20 meters (66 ft).
The earthquake caused a tsunami which struck the coast of Japan[3] and may also be linked to the Bonneville Slide and the Tseax Cone eruption in British Columbia. The earthquake took place at about 21:00 Pacific Time on January 26, 1700 (NS). Although there are no written records for the region from the time, the timing of the earthquake has been inferred from Japanese records of a tsunami that does not correlate with any other Pacific Rim quake. The Japanese records exist primarily in the modern-day Iwate Prefecture, in communities such as Tsugaruishi, Kuwagasaki and Åtsuchi.
It is now obviously 319 years since the last large earthquake at this edge of the Juan de Fuca plate. We are overdue for another big one!
Sad to say, that clown actually predicted this the other day.
