“The solution is simple. We end the Korean war via peace treaty & withdraw our troops from South Korea.”

My preferred solution is to encourage South Korea and Japan to develop their own independent nuclear forces. (I know; Japan already has nukes, but we aren’t supposed to acknowledge that.) That, more than anything we say we will do in their defense, will get China’s and Lil Kim’s attention.

Incorrect.

It is out there now.

He has been fully informed. He would not listen. He thought the special power of his ionospheric relationship with The Dictator and optics and glad-handing would be enough to do it, to flip them. That is a deeply flawed understanding of just who and what Kim Jong Un is and what North Korea is and how far you can trust them past their words. As much as I wish it were otherwise, as a patriot and a Republican and a conservative, DJT was taken in by it all and has too large of an ego to now admit his failure and over optimism. Most people around him, most professionals know this is going nowhere fast and he’s just dangerously giving the Norks TIME to work in weaponry and perfect it.

He (Kim and father) did the same games to Obama and Clinton. But when he did, both of those fools ass kissed and appeased and caved. Why should our disgust be any different or toned down or even evaporated completely if it is done once again under Republicans? That’s what you call being coopted. Would that not make us hypocrites on FR considering our consistent posts here on North Korea for 20+ years?

When you lose independent reasoning, this is what happens. Make no mistake. The President’s NK policy from 20 January 2017 to about April 2018 was brilliant and really good. I was onboard here, fully. It’s in the record. Pardon the pun but “it really went south after that.”

Agreed.

I LOVE Trump. We worked across from each other in Manhattan :)

Well, a few block apart.

So as a NYer, it’s GREAT to finally be proud of a NY office holder again since Giuliani.

But I don’t agree with everything and it’s getting to the point where i’m hesitant to say so.

ALL I can figure is after he wins next year, bombs away if necessary is his thinking.

I could live with that.

As long as we have another year to be safe

Agree with Trump on a lot of other items—this one? Sucks. But step out of line and criticize him openly here on FR on any one topic? Get ready to be called a “Never Trumper” (unsubstantiated) liberal, Deep State, CIA, State Dept., and every name in the book. It’s cultist with some people. This is classic cult thought. Not a word of criticism can be leveled toward Maximum Leader. It doesn’t resemble FR I used to know because we had for example a lot of criticism toward Bush-2 here, but it never got that bad and people just coexisted. They had their “Daily Dose of President Bush” here and that was fine with me. Anyways, name-callers on FR can never discuss on facts, they haven’t a constructive or enlightening thought to present on North Korea, something that can be respected and sincerely challenged civilly. There is nothing there. Just mostly insults.

What is not reported here and apparently unknown are the actual effects of the sanctions on North Korea. I would like to believe that the President has hard intelligence from inside measuring the detrimental sanction effects. That is, the President knows if they are actually working

That intelligence is apparently unknown outside our government and if known is not being reported.

So, from my desk, I look and conclude that Kim is powerless to actually resist. He figured out that the small missiles are not part of his agreement so he fires them to get his face on TV as being relevant.

I remember Saddam Hussein and his Scuds. I think the missiles kim is firing are his version of Scuds. They are probably actually old and from inventory.

Bottom line, The President seems to be prevailing even though the objective of denuclearization has not been accomplished.

Then, lest we forget, there is Japan. Our President and Prime Minister Abe of Japan seem to be getting along very very well. We do not know what they may have cooked up regarding KIm.

Does anyone think Iran popping into the G7 uninvited was a bit odd?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That was a staged radical socialist event. Saul Alinsky style. It failed. PDJT displayed not even the slightest ruffled feather and went about his business.

Too bad out president did not confront him , and jack his ass up between his shoulder blades for having the Red Guard kill and maim so many US soldiers in Iraq by supplying vast amounts of IED components to the mujahadeen. That would have made me very happy. But alas, the nuances of diplomacy.

OK, here’s the deal........ the President did not need to act as you suggest

Iran is currently being strangled and breathing is difficult. The crashing of the event by Iran is proof.

No need to beat them up while they are dieing

Agreed, we have become so impatient with this 24/7 news cycle and hand held computers at our fingertips.. Same goes for waiting out China on the tariffs.

It is actually quite out there and open source. It is no secret. We have western diplomatic staff in Pyongyang, tourists who now report out what life is like there and it shows fairly weak effect, life as usual. They have gone around sanctions with considerable international cyber theft and coal and other illicit resources from China/Russia. Japanese TV here is quite full of regular reports about the sanctions not making their lives too miserable at the moment. The best story was how Kim was still getting his forbidden Mercedes Benz’s through an elaborate 14 stage/5-nation distribution process from Europe through Asia involving all kinds of players. https://amp.businessinsider.com/mercedes-limo-kim-jong-un-north-korea-2019-7

Thanks for that

I was not aware of the sanction work arounds. I have never seen any of the reports you note.

Most subs, particularly the little shaved head sap suckers subs—can submerge at lest once.
