Sunday on MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin called for the shunning and shaming of the supporters of President Donald Trump, which she argued was part of a plan to “burn down” the GOP and start from new.
“It’s not only that Trump has to lose, but that all his enablers have to lose,” she said. “We have to collectively, in essence, burn down the Republican Party. We have to level them because if there are survivors — if there are people who weather this storm, they will do it again. They will take this as confirmation that, ‘Hey, it just pays to ride the wave — look at me, I’ve made it through.’ Up and down the ticket — federal, state and local offices — the country has to repudiate this.”

We really do have a problem for 2024, though, when Donald Trump gets termed out. We should be looking around for a worthy stable of successors who will perpetuate the revolution against the GOPe that has been proceeding so very well up to now.

I think you have it all wrong. The GOP base is actually very tiny. Most people I know who call themselves “conservative” are only Republicans because the Democratic Party is such a bunch of stunted misfits that the GOP is the only viable alternative.
She ardently wants dissenting opinions and the people holding them to be destroyed. Such activists don’t believe in the nobility manifest in the First Amendment. Such bankrupt ideas should consider moving to Venezuela, where their views of government have taken firmer hold.
The parties have effectively reversed themselves. The Republicans were the Totalitarians in 1861. The Democrats wanted to be left alone.
