THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
RICHARD RODGERS
A CONNECTICUT YANKEE: THOU SWELL
This 1928 entry comes from the days when Bix and Bing Crosby were fellow heavy drinkers and brawlers working with Paul Whitemans band. Bing was a serious badass back then. Bix was usually hung over most of the day, so Whiteman would mark his score, Wake up Bix. The booze would eventually kill him at a young age.
This recording has been re-mastered using todays techniques, so it sounds like it was recorded yesterday. This is what Dixieland sounded like live. Catch the rather square 4/4 beat on the piano, the thing that Gershwin rebelled against.
Bix Beiderbecke: Thou Swell

I saw BTO open for Van Halen in Sammy's first tour with them in 1986. BTO was simply a solid, well-oiled classic rock band that cranked out hit after hit...easily one of the best opening acts I ever saw.
The highlight for me was Hey You.

This is a 1936 Swing Era classic. Arties band featured some great sidemen, and you get to hear all of them.

Thanks Kathy!
BTO was a fav group from the '70's, good upbeat, fast music.
Just relaxin' now after an afternoon with son-boy out at the range.
I have an old high school friend who live in S. Anchorage who says the fire smoke is really affecting his health.
Hope you're doing OK.

Yeah, BTO!
One of their biggest hits was "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet". Randy Bachman wrote it as a tease of his brother Garry, who had a stutter. He recorded it, but didn't think anything of it.
They were putting together what would become the album "Not Fragile". Charley Fach, who was Mercury Record's artist liason, listened to the songs they had for the project, but he didn't feel a radio hit with any of them. He asked Randy if there was anything else. He said there was just this one 'junk' track, but Fach asked him to play it. According to Bachman, "The engineer played it to him, and within 1 seconds he said: Put that on the album now. A few weeks later he calls me and says the record is huge."
Oh....and by the way, after the record came out, Garry lost his stutter.
You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet-BTO (with lyrics)
Oh, and here's my favorite non-hit from BTO, also from the same album, 'Not Fragile'.
