Charles Payne on Fox Business News just announced that President Trump will sign a memorandum that will eliminate all student debt for disabled vets.
Bravo!
I would like to add that ALL of the benefits we have given to NON citizens our DISABLED vets deserve AT LEAST this!!!
“Just ask Audie Murphy...”
Normally great, fearless heroes are psychopaths of one degree or another. They don’t experience the paralyzing fear of normal humans and either win valor awards on the battlefield or die spectacularly...even honorably.
And they become legends.
That was not Audie Murphy. In the field he confesses to being terrified all the time, but motivated to perform his role, and to do everything he could, no matter what came.
And he survived.
And with all his fame...awards...movies...he died miserable.
A weapon he ALWAYS carried, a .45 found in a holster on his shoulder with his remains after a plane crash. He has said he would “check every lock in the house, twice” before he could go to sleep, and sometime awaken to check them again.
Our greatest hero was a drunken, drug addicted PTSD vet.
And my hero since I was 5yrs old.
I referenced him because I know his story well.
Too many men just suffered in silence, and/or drank themselves to death.
People who propagate the belief that suffering in silence is tough are,
condemning many men to horrible lives and early deaths.
They need help.
Bless 'em all.
Do you work in the medical field?
Honestly, it has nothing to do with slots. It has to do with recently graduated professionals burdened with half a million in debt for an MD and $200k for PAs. They rush to the specialties because they are so far behind on the money curve they have to start making BIG money fast.
And with the death of the baby boom...there will be enough docs in ten years. We just have them in the wrong places.
Paid for every class, pen n book.... my GI bill had expired anyway. Felt good to earn it.
Yes, my kids did without and it took a while to save up the money.
It. Is. Doable. Just do it.
If this is true, only combat related disabilities.
Who’s going a mil into debt to get an MD?
“The most recent statistics by the American Medical Student Association estimate that over 86% of graduates in the medical field carry educational debt. Compare that with the overall 70% of all graduates who carry debt, and youll notice immediately that medical school is one of the heavy hitters in the debt department. To make matters worse, the debt burden for medical students seems to grow exponentially with each year.
In 2011, the average medical student debt was $173,000, with the same number, 86%, of graduates carrying debt. The average medical school debt rose to $178,000 in 2012, and by 2016, the average medical school debt was up to $190,000, with about 25% of graduates carrying debts higher than $200,000.”

And what, are you arguing to limit competition in the field?

What many on this thread didnt do was actually read the article (which is a FR frequent flyer mistake). The student loan forgiveness program is only for 100% T&P.
He won every Valor award the US Army and US Congress had to offer. Some twice.
And he won numerous Valor awards from the Nation of France (to include their highest), Belgium and others.
When he wore his dress uniform, of any variety, he looked like some African dictator...or Christmas tree.
He said he once wondered how many men he had to kill to be that Poster Boy...because he didn’t know.
Please read the article. There is a big difference in what you said and what is being done. Vets and 100% T&P disabled vets are two totally different people. All are vets but not all vets are 100%T&P disabled.
“If this is true, only combat related disabilities.”
Or, actively training for combat.
A Green Beret that crushed some vertebrae on a bad landing should be eligible. Or, lost a leg to a shark in Deep Water Survival Training.
Haha, for somebody insisting on waiting for facts, you sure are making a lot of assumptions. You’re only confusing yourself with a pretty disingenuous attempt to twist my words. Good luck and good night.
When I was a yute I met Audie, shortly before his death. He leaned over and shook my hand and asked how I was doing. I can still see him like it was yesterday - because all the adults present were very excited about meeting him. I didn’t appreciate (fully) who he was until later in life.
...there are a large number who are milking the system.
I'm curious as to what you consider "milking the system."
My point is that if we are okay with eliminating debt for vets, down the road when Dems get control, they will find another group to apply the debt elimination. Without a detailed plan, we have to look ahead to all possible scenarios and whether we are willing to accept the bad with the good.
Personally, I believe we are a generous and giving citizenry when it comes to fundraising for vets. Perhaps something can be done in the private sector instead of relying on more government bureaucracy.
I guess I was recalling the ones I knew personally — friends’ fathers, my family, church members, etc. Of course I don’t know every WWII vet. They DID have great productive lives, although who knows what was under the surface...

They will do that anyway.
No matter what we do.
” just because they happened to be in the military?”
Your words.
Not in the bill.
So, you know nothing about the medical business.
Just confirmed it.
As someone pointed out, if someone is 100% T&P, the chances they will default on that debt is a lot higher than the average person with regular student loans. Thats why its being done that way for 100% and not just anyone with a claim.
