eliminate all student debt for disabled vets
Don't the vets' GI Bill plus their disability pay cover most education expenses?

I don’t care if it applies to all. Veteran are NOT short order cooks, and we owe them a debt of gratitude.

President Trump is speaking here in Louisville, Kentucky, at the AMVETS convention. He said "Every penny of student loan debt for those who are completely and permanently disabled."

Hope this helps.

Good. If there is one segment of the student citizens who deserve a pass, it’s these guys. Add their tuition to the illegals..

It’s a way to head off the Dems declaring that they will eliminate student debts if they are elected.

If they do that now, they will have to explain how the student with a degree in social environmental justice, unemployed living in his parents house at age 30 is equal to a disabled veteran.......................

Good move.... but....

I can see the gesture being abused in the future.

Imagine...

All recruits in the future being encouraged or advised to purchase a home “just in case” they get wounded severely and become incapacitated and “can’t work”. We, meaning all taxpayers, would become the debt payers for all of them. And, it wouldn’t be just homes; it could be transportation and child support, and more.

If anything, the pensions allowed to permanently disabled veterans should cover all costs and debts. In any case, if we “employ” them to risk life and limb, then, we should be ready to pay, worst case scenarios included.

This is actually what is already going on with federal direct loans...if someone is permanently disabled they can apply to have their loan discharged due to that disability...

John Q. Public can already get his student loans discharged via permanent disability. The amount of the discharge is taxable as income, and has to be reported. I don’t know how the government handles student loan discharge for disabled vets...specifically those who were permanently disabled during active service. I guess we’ll have to wait to hear the finer details. I don’t trust the news media to get the full story on this.

How will disability by defined now and into FUTURE administrations?

Also, colleges will just increase tuition rates because what government subsidizes, government corrupts and destroys.

Is anyone aware of how much fraud there is with the VA Disability ratings and Vets? They have become a welfare class of folks. I’m a vet. So, no telling me that I don’t know what it’s like.

Question...Are folks with diagnosed Alzheimers allowed to drive vehicles? One would think it probably wouldn’t be too good an idea, right? What do you do with men and women in their mid to late 20s, on up, who score WORSE on a cognitive skills test than a 70 or 80yr old with full blown, officially diagnosed Alzheimer’s Disease? Who then get into their F150 that they’re paying for with about $3200, for life, checks from the VA.

Or what about the Admin folks that never deployed, never go on ruck marches, can take a PT test and pass, spent most of their time in the service in front of a computer screen, but upon ETS’ing, tell the VA pimp that their shoulders, neck, hips, knees and ankles hurt and they have trouble sleeping at night. Doing that math that person will get $1500 or more, a month for life.

Or what about the guys that are getting around 60-70% disability for all sorts of physical problems but do Crossfit 2x a day without any pain or limitations?

What about the guys that are claiming 100% PTSD, but go to a place like the US Shooting Academy and take EVERY class the place has to offer, to include explosive breaching classes, using their GI Bill to pay for everything but the gun they purchases and being exposed daily to the very things they told the VA pimp keeps them up at night, makes the curl up into a ball when fireworks go off and a whole host of other stimulus that is pure bullsh*t.

If someone legitimately earns the right to collect a disability check, then God willing, let them get anything and everything available to them. But the system is being played and manipulated at the cost of the American taxpayer and our debt.

So, since the Vets are going to get their loans waived, how long before the Left sues for equal protection under the law and discriminatory practices, shops the right judge and WINS? What happens then?

You wouldn’t believe what the Post 9/11 GI Bill pays for.

Fortunately they cracked down on this type of stuff, but these schools were making money hand over fist.

Let’s be clear. “Eliminate” student debt for Vets? Or just transfer their debt to the taxpayers?
Like Illegal immigration, let’s fix the real problem first. Reduce the cost of education, then you can start using my money to help reduce student (Veteran or not) debts. Why can’t teachers and schools give a little? Or better yet, trade school...

Fine, give veterans tax breaks/current GI Bill subsidies based on performance (Maintaining a 3.0 GPA or you pay the money back), just don’t completely destroy the free market.

What about firefighters, and cops?

are you telling me GI Jane who spent their time drafting gender pronoun guidelines in a European office building contributed more to society and put their lives on the line for us more that these professions just because they happened to be in the military?

How about paramedics?
or debt ridden new doctors?
or priests in dangerous ministries?
or computer programmers for critical medical devices?

I could go on and on...

I understand there are “degrees” of disability. Someone permanently and completely disabled are not going to pay back their school loans anyway, so this seems reasonable.
