A man was in police custody Tuesday in connection with the death of a 9-year-old girl in Detroit who was mauled by three dogs despite efforts by neighbors and her own "heartbroken" father, who lamented that "she was gone when I reached her."

I don’t know what to even say.
I don’t have to read the article to know the breed of dog.
Pit bull owners tend to be poorr. It’s like ‘I may be on the bottom of the economic totem pole but on this sidewalk you are going to get off’.
Yes, years of breeding them to be fighters and protectors.
We raise English Setters (bird dogs). Took them outside one day around a bunch of birds at 8-9 weeks and those pups went nuts, shook like crazy. From hundreds of years of bird dog breeding.
Other breeds we have had at that age don’t even look at birds.
He should not have let the little girl ride her bike in the area, at least not without being there armed to protect her. It would be like letting her ride next to the house of a neighbor who is a known child molester.
Did. Not. Even. Need. To. Read.
We need back ground checks for dog owners.
I wonder where all the Democrats calling for the banning of Assault Dogs are?
How can we make sure this never happens again?

My friend volunteers at an animal shelter near Downtown Cleveland. 90% of the dogs they get are stray pit-bulls from the East Side. I have told her its yet just another form of welfare she is providing.
I had a Golden Retriever pup that had never seen water. I took him out to a local pond and he jumped right in and swam like a duck.
My Sheltie has never seen a sheep, but he herds like a champ.
Dogs do what they've been bred to do.
I wouldn't mind having owners of "bully" breeds being made to put up a sizable bond for their good behavior. It might make them a bit more circumspect about how they raise and look after their dogs.
Poor little thing, God Bless her.
Beaver dog chases beavers.
Speechless? I, too, can’t fathom the tragic results of a dog owner that was so careless to not keep the dogs securely penned.
I feel empty just having read the story.
The vicious propensities of several breeds of dogs should be considered as dangerous as an assault weapon. There are too many stories like this. Not mass killings in a school but robbing a little girl of her future life, to me, is the same.
I have three daughters and two grand daughters.
Only “one of the dogs was shot?” That is another tragedy...
Yep. Dont know why people keep them as pets. Last year two women in two separate incidents were mauled to death just walking them.
Here’s one I found...

I conceal carry just in case I run into a pit bull.Have a Taurus Judge with two shotshells for spray then go in for the kill shot. I despise them and their owners.
I think had I been the unfortunate father of this child who was killed in a manner so horrible that I cannot even fathom it in my mind...
There would be three dead dogs, one dead dog owner and either me in prison for a long time, or me on my way to reunite with my daughter in the sky.
My cousin owned pit bulls for years and was an apologist for them. The breed could never do harm according to him.
Funny when his daughter had their first grandchild she told him if the pit bulls were still there grandpa and grandma would never see the grandchild. She knew the dangers.
Funny how fast he adopted those dogs off.
How did such a dope raise a smart daughter?
