I heard that crap from an owner who raised a pit from puppyhood. Despite her good raising, the dog ended up not being friendly to others. Bad breed.
It’s a lousy comparison. “Assault weapons” (whatever those may be) are not of themselves a clear and present danger to anyone. (They facilitate patriots presenting a danger to criminals and tyrants).
Certain types of dogs are a danger to everyone around.

That was a lawful and rightful shoot to protect human life from attackers.
I freely admit there’s a fighting instinct in Pitties. They were bred to fight. My Staffy has it so I’m careful about who and what other animals she is allowed to come in contact with. I don’t think she would do what these Pit’s did but I also would not want to take that chance for everyone’s sake. I’d like to see this breed reduced in numbers. Drastically reduced by attrition rather than killing them.
Will I get another Bully breed when she’s gone? I don’t think so. I just need a good companion dog (I have 4 now) that’s also a good watch dog to let me know there’s someone around so I can be in condition yellow rather than condition white when at home.
Has anyone ever been around a well trained pitbull? I ask because I haven’t. The few pitbulls I have been around were nice dogs, but they weren’t well trained. I have also never been around a well trained really small dog. They exist, I’ve seen them in showbiz animal acts.
I’ve been around many well trained dogs, they come, sit, stay at command around strangers and are well habituated to most situations, like being around kids or another strange dog coming around with their owner. Supposedly only 5% of dog owners deign to do this, which pretty much corresponds to my own observations.

Not a bite in the bunch but I never assumed that it couldn't happen and I handled the dogs accordingly.
In spite of your self proclaimed prowess as a dog trainer, you are a fool.
Any dog can run off the rails, and if you think scratching its belly is some sort of secret technique, you are showing how your VAST your naivete really is.
There is a yellow lab a couple doors down that is a vicious sh!t. Just a mean SOB. We have a very large yard, so it is pretty much a de facto dog park, as several neighbors drop by with their dogs to romp and play with our pit. Not one of those neighbors wants anything to do with that yellow lab. Its owners are a$$holes, as well; very cold people, and they don’t maintain their property. The village has been out several times to write them up for one thing or another.
Any animal just like any human can as you say “run off the rails”, kind of like you when it comes to Pit Bulls.
I have been raising and training dogs for over 40 years so I think I have a pretty good handle on them.
I at least have enough common sense not to condemn an entire breed to extinction due to the failures of a few human masters, or out of just plain FEAR.
This (not) conversation is over, some people just cannot be cured of their irrational prejudices or fears.
Serious question... if you encountered a pit bull and you did not have a weapon (gun, stick, golf club, etc.), what is the best way to incapacitate or kill the pit bull.
