Danish PM: Trump’s idea of buying Greenland is ‘absurd’

Greenland is not for sale and U.S. President Donald Trump’s idea of buying the semi-autonomous Danish territory in the Arctic from Denmark is “an absurd discussion,” Denmark’s prime minister said.

Mette Frederiksen, who was visiting the world’s largest island to meet Premier Kim Kielsen, told reporters: “Greenland is not Danish. Greenland is Greenlandic. I persistently hope that this is not something that is seriously meant.”

Frederiksen said Sunday that the Arctic, with resources that Russia and others could exploit for commercial gain, “is becoming increasingly important to the entire world community.”

“I expect America will clearly be heading into some kind of totalitarian oligarchy headed by the likes of George Soros and Hitlery Klinton and company.”

My kids would agree with you and they’ll have to deal with the mess we’re all leaving for them, but I’m quite as pessimistic, yet. The reason that I hold out hope is because the Democrats keep opening up about who they are and what they want to do to the country. I was going to say they keep moving/positioning themselves to the left...but that’s not really true, they’ve always been there, but they knew enough to hide it. Now they’re front and center with their destroy-America plans.

Obviously they think they can simply put a coalition together that will outvote normal white people. But normal white people (i.e., whites who are not gay or rabid feminists) are still around 50% of the voting public, so they have to also grab a good number of them, because blacks will vote 10% Republican, Asians and Jews will vote 30% Republican, and Hispanics will vote anywhere from 30 to 40% Republican (maybe 50% Republican if you believe Zogby...I’m not there yet).

Can the Dems keep talking as they do and still get enough idiot white voters (at least 35%)? I guess they can try, but it certainly not assured!

But, yes, the trends are not good...but we have some tools too, if we can just to the point of being able to use them. They would include, foremost, cleaning up our voting system, so the Dems have to get real votes, not harvested or otherwise manufactured votes. And Hispanics are NOT voting the way the Democrats expected, which would be Hispanics voting like blacks (i.e., 90% Democrat). Things might get somewhat better for the Dems with less Mexicans and more Central Americans coming here...but who knows.

So time will tell, but I still haven’t written off the country - but only because Democrats are overplaying their hand, in my opinion at least.

“Danish PM: Trump’s idea of buying Greenland is ‘absurd’”

Isn’t that always the seller’s first move in the sales process?

Greenland costs Denmark $0.5B per year in subsidies.
G tax revenue (subsidy included) is $1.7B.
G GDP is $2.5B.
10x revenue is a not unreasonable price for a business.
100x GDP seems an upper limit on buying a la sovereignty transfer, and that’s $250B here.
That’s >7% of US federal spending.
D GDP is $320B.
We could pay top dollar for it in cash, at a price Denmark would be insane to pass up to be rid of a financial sinkhole.

Greenland can be thought of as realestate. Trump said Greenland is an econimic burden on Denmark.

Greenland is said to cost Denmark $700 million a year. That’s a big liability for such a small nation. The possibility exists Denmark might want to be relieved of this liability.

There might be Danes who look at the money and say hmmm..... let’s take the money

Trump can then snap up Greenland. It’s what developers do

If we, in a pique, were to drop the protection we provide Denmark and Greenland, Putin and Russia would be only too happy to “take them under his wing” and “protect” them....to the endpoint of enslaving them both.

Yeah, we sort of have the same problem here.

Our neighbors across the river keep yelling that they are Iowans and not the obviously more correct Iowegians.

“Thankfully, the time where you buy and sell other countries and populations is over."

Hardly. If you're not supporting yourself, Greenland. You're for sale.

It is absurd up until the day before an agreement is struck to encourage Greenland to abdicate from Denmark and request status as a territory in the US. In exchange, of coarse, for 100 billion US dollars paid to Denmark.

My geography SUCKS so I had to look it up and I didn’t know Russia bordered Norway and Sweden, I think.

Those northern Western European countries would be ripe for the picking with the US of A.

Maybe Trump should remind some of them. Or all of them.

Seems like Denmark has no nukes of their own so the EU and NATO are their protectors.

Under a 1951 deal, Denmark allowed the U.S. to build bases and radar stations on Greenland.

The U.S. Air Force currently maintains one base in northern Greenland, Thule Air Force Base, some 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) south of the North Pole. Formerly military airfields in Narsarsuaq, Kulusuk and Kangerlussuaq have become civilian airports.

The Thule base, constructed in 1952, was originally designed as a refueling base for long-range bombing missions. It has been a ballistic missile early warning and space surveillance site since 1961.

Interesting.

We have troops occupying the soil of Greenland
