If an armed conflict broke out between Beijing and Washington, Chinas hi-tech ballistic missiles would likely cripple the United States military bases and naval fleet across the Western Pacific region within hours, a new report by Australia-based researchers has said.
With China making rapid technological advancements and sharpening its hard power, the report urged the US and regional allies such as Australia and Japan to overhaul military investment and deployment plans, or face the prospect of American military primacy being undermined by the Asian power.

“Loss of a military target”
Did you read the first paragraph of the article? It says all of the US military bases in Asia and our naval fleet. Hello! My dear uninformed friend if the Chinese were ever stupid enough which they aren’t to inflict that level of war on the USA one of our boomers at the North Pole would blow a hole in the ice, rise to about 200 ft, 20 tubes would open and birds would fly.
Let's assume he developed these perspectives from CNN. OK, so where did CNN develop their material; what's their foundation? Ever consider that perhaps FR might have been prime mining ground to create cut-out figures of simplistic 'patriots'? And if that's the case, I would suggest this thread, and the kinds of replies found here would be excellent fodder to build up such caricatures.
What sense of power and/or entitlement is created when one views the US military as some kind of organization interested in protecting the common US citizen, as if they represent you and *your* freedom & liberty? Seems to me it's closer to the weird projection certain sports fans have wearing apparel and peppering conversation with 'us', as if they are somehow part of the (commercial) organization.
You and others should understand that the fed.gov does not represent you in any way, shape or form. You are a toiling, tax paying subject, long stripped of any constitutional provision. I don't know exactly when the republic died, but it was at least sometime before WW1.
These types of 'my team' threads are both sad and embarrassing. Imagine being a deep stater and just laughing at the rubes who don't have a clue.
Did we learn nothing from the "High Way of Death" that GHWB showed us?
China is more advanced technologically than the U.S. now.
My hovercraft is full of eels.
Yes, China has surpassed us in many ways. They have all of our technology and have improved it. They build all that stuff, we build nothing. They build our technology. Our military runs on Chinese parts. Our government is hiding that from us. And they are almost 4 times our size.
And the Chinese Navy and Air Force would cease to exist within moments after that.
We should be more concerned with Chicos missiles hitting Silicon Valley and our bases on the west coast. A couple of hits in Seattle and San Fran will start the cries of surrender.
The US has not seen much war since the 1870s. People would be shocked to see the Golden Gate Bridge blocking the harbor.
Only a true moron would get into a tank battle in Asia. Are you guys morons? No, I didnt think so.
A battle with China would exist of some missiles hitting their ports and ships. If it went beyond that, it would go nuclear pretty darned fast. There is no way, logistically, to invade China. And why would we? That makes no sense.
Wars are not won with tactics. They are won with logistics.
Never should have put a boot on the ground. Incessant full scale bombing in the north would have turned them off pretty quickly.
China has the problem that plagued the Soviets; the obsession with not failing. Americans test all the time and fail. When we fail, we keep making changes and keep testing.
In the Communist world, failing means you get replaced or sent to the gulag. So there is a propensity to not test something if you think it could fail.
So when the Chinese launch missiles at us, they aren’t certain they are going to work.
I was assuming they would understand that if China defeat us they’re toast. They can all start learning Mandarin and how to use chop sticks.
Operations Rolling Thunder, Linebacker and Linebacker II didnt seem to do much of anything.
In the post you reference, the topic was quality of weapons production not determining the victor in a conflict, not just tanks - in response to someone elses post about how all Chinese and Russian rifles theyve seen not being stellar examples of machining and finishing. If China makes a thousand good enough but sloppily built missiles for every one we have and throws them at a CBG, we have some pretty big problems.
Sub launched Tomahawks and Harpoons would do serious damage to the Chicoms sea/air operations capabilities. You light up your radar, fain a massive attack with drones to get them to start launching missiles and our subs are plotting targets. Then they launch and go quite to redeploy and a bunch of chicom sea/air assets go boom.
Next you take out their man made islands with more missiles from subs and then have your air assets pound them into rumble and make their runways useless. You take out their outer islands like these and then you hit and punch at their mainland targets and if their navy sorties you make them pay. Thing is if you punch their mainland, they will go after Alaska, Hawaii and the west coast. Count on them hitting Guam, Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines if they can.
I’m reading we are field testing some mounted laser on a DDG in the gulf that supposedly shoots down missiles, planes and knock the crap out of small boats. If this is successful and capable of rapid fire it would make a CBG much more formidable.
We bombed their “industry.” We did not bomb their homes.
They don’t actually care about their man made islands in a fight with the US so that would be a waste of missiles and the plan they have to screw with us logistically.
The “massive attack with drones” is something we can’t currently convincingly do against a peer or near peer opponent.
No doubt. And I cringe to think of the US losing several thousand sailors in one day. I am not sure the country could handle that—no matter the reason.
